Kerry appearance at American Legion - live thread
self

Posted on 09/01/2004 4:46:34 AM PDT by rudy45

Sorry for starting this thread so early. Is this like calling "shotgun" three days before the trip starts LOL?

I was trying to find out the time that the Senator's speech will occur. I found nothing at the Legion website (www.legion.org), nor at the Kerry site, nor at CSPAN. When will the speech be given?

Anyway, here is a thread for people to post their comments.

No, he walked down off the stage for a moment to shake hands. One of the cable channels showed it. He shook a few hands and went back. I saw some in the front that wanted to shake his hand but the rows behind were standing with their arms at their sides. He then went away. I wouldn't lie.

Funny, the same people embarrassed the Hell out of 41 in 92 because of the push for normalization w/ Nam. That probably helped him lose the election.

Why aren't they displeased with Kerry's past traitorous antics and current betrayal of the troops?

They gave him a win today. They let him -- a treacherous guy w/ no credibility-- bash Bush with their acquiecense. Sad!!

I'm over it, but they lost a helluva opportunity to embarrass him.

If you looked the AL is primarily comprised of folks of a certain age who grew up in an era where respect for others was paramount. They were being polite to Kerry. It was not the time for people to take potshots at him to get your juices going.

The convention will be over by midnight. He wants to get the cable channels to cover his rally instead of talking about the President's speech. He is slime. There was an article posted this morning saying Kerry was trying to devise a way to take the spotlight off the President immediately.

You're right, there's nothing mainstream about it. How about "the old media"?

"Old Europe" hit the mark; "Old Media" should cause a sting. Let's do it!

He totally avoided the SBVFT issue...it's liek a guy walking down the street with a small terrier biting his ankle, and pretending to ignore it

I'm going back through replies I missed reading earlier...Kerry said he'd been to one hospital, which I didn't catch the name of. Then said he'd *also* been to Walter Reed.

Well, I watched the whole speech and then I watched the response on Fox. The speech went better for Kerry than I hoped. Kerry's clearly been highly coached. Much less arrogance than he normally displays. Slightly too long and a little boring. He began the speech pandering to the Legionnaires, where applause was obligatory. Even so, there was never really a lot of applause and several times when he gave the briefest of pauses anticipating applause there was none. I suspect Kerry had a good number of his people scattered throughout the crowd.

Kerry made the following charges:

1) Bush didn't have the troops guarding nuclear waste and stores in Iraq.
2) Bush sent Afghan troops after Osama instead of our own guys.
3) 9 out of 10 troops are either in Iraq, home from Iraq or going to Iraq at a time when troops will be needed due to increased tensions in North Korea and Iran.

Kerry also said that he would add a large number of active duty troops to our forces - sorry can't remember the number.

You replied: I don't think that ever was elevated to the level of "rumor". Rank speculation/wishful thinking at best.

My Humble Highly Enlightened Opinion: The Swifties put a big pre-emptive KA-FLOOEY on that trial ballon with their letter about what would constitute an apology.

In other words, they did not allow JF'nK to set the ground rules for the apology, the Swifties set the ground rules.

Otherwise, Kerry could do an "IF" apology that "IF" his actions upset anyone or hurt anyone he is very sorry.

Swifties - over 30 years of steaming hot revenge being slowly shoved up Kerry's rear end on a weekly basis.

Kerry can hire all the Clintools he wants. They are only used to fighting political battles.

This is no political battle.

Did he specifically say that the General was at Walter Reed? Or just that he visited him and visited troops at Walter Reed?

The latter.

He may even be hoping that the cable news channels will break from talking about the President's speech in order to cover his rally. He will probably bus in tons of his union thugs to make it look like all of Ohio came out to see him at midnight. This kind of crap has never been done by any candidate before. If the cable channels were decent, they wouldn't cover his rally at all. However, I suspect they will just like they covered everything clinton did on the day GWB was inaugurated.

Do you think, for a minute, that Bush could have gone to a place that was 80% Democrat-- that had a lot of power to sway the election-- ( an organization that he had never supported... that he actively went against their issues) 2 months out of a high stakes election and not get humiliated?

I don't!!!

Your irrational and incessant attacks on the AL are extremely tiresome and you need some lessons on who the real enemy is as you have forgotten. HINT it ain't the American Legion. Whose side are you on? This is the same group which gave Bush and enthusiastic response and yet you are slandering it with great glee.

I direct you to 92 when people very similiar to those you describe kicked President Bush 41 in the teeth in front of a television audience.

You know, you have made your points over and over again. You are the classic doom and gloomer everywhere you go. If that's what you plan to do tonight on the Convention LIVE THREAD, please stay away. That thread is to support and celebrate our President and you seem to find a way to bitch about everything 24/7. You always say what you feel about everything so now I'm saying what I feel.
