Kerry appearance at American Legion - live thread
self

Posted on 09/01/2004 4:46:34 AM PDT by rudy45

Sorry for starting this thread so early. Is this like calling "shotgun" three days before the trip starts LOL?

I was trying to find out the time that the Senator's speech will occur. I found nothing at the Legion website (www.legion.org), nor at the Kerry site, nor at CSPAN. When will the speech be given?

Anyway, here is a thread for people to post their comments.

He's caught flak about his tardiness so I'm betting he'll be earlier than usual. Maybe I've got too much faith in him...

An excellent analogy, Crawdad. And God bless you and help you in your own battle.

I think I may have to go with faithincowboys with this one.

I personally think times like these demand citizen action. He needs to be shunned.

While I agree that the American Legion is a wonderful and normally respectful group, I think they deserve to let this creep know what they think of him.

Maybe they should all spit on him as they walk out?

Well, I thought the VFW events were appropriate. Most of the members listened politely, two stood back-to Kerry. That sits okay with me. But IMO, it would reflect badly on the American Legion if it performed a mass shunning. Again, not that Kerry doesn't deserve it, but sometimes it is just not appropriate to SHOW disdain.

BTW, the SBVfT second ad is playing HARD here in Maine, on the FoxNews cable channel. I've heard it about 6 or 7 times since 7:30. Nashville was going to be saturation covered with SBVfT ads today, so the Legionnaires are apt to be informed before Kerry's speech. ;-)

"CNN reported yesterday that they have seen parts of Kerry's speech and he is going to attack the Swift Boat Vets and question what they have done for the past 35 years (I'm a Senator and you're not!)."<<<<<<...THE BOY JUST DON'T GET IT!!!"

Sounds like he has been listening to Hillry. Will JFKerry be sporting his natural "BLACK/BROWN" eyes today or will he go for the "BLUE or GREEN" eye color????? I would love to see him one eye "BLACK/BROWN" and the other one "GREEN", (envy)!

"Not me. I hope he gets a respectful hearing. Not that he deserves it, but I think the membership of the American Legion has more class."

I think you may be right that the audience won't be openly hostile, but will be very cool.

Here's my prediction. Kerry will be so nervous, sweating so profusely, and stumbling so badly that he will do himself in once and for all with this speech.

It will be an embarrassment to the entire country. Not that having him as a candidate hasn't been an embarrassment already.

Yeah, I was speaking with my old man about this, and I said that he might not be properly dealt with because Terry Ketchup donated a handsome sum or because they don't want to shrink their donation base.

My old man said, if they did treat him like he ought to be treated, they would see a sharp spike in donations because the people that make the country work would love it. We have been waiting so long for it. Kind of like McCain's dropkick of Moore.

And that makes sense because I think the people that do donate trend Right and wouldn't at all mind a guy who caused so much pain to a generation of America's heroes getting his.

But I don't think it'll happen. And John Glenn is there to dissaude good people from giving Kerry the business. What a pity!!!

So he's going to win over the vets by telling how much government money he's given them? How generous of him.

I'm a vet nearing retirement age. I can understand how veterans benefits could be important, but somehow I don't think that is the issue this year.

Did you happen to catch Leno last night when he was talking about the convention and about John Kerry? He was talking about Kerry being on Nantucket windsurfing. Then he said, "even Kerry's favorite hobby depends on which way the wind is blowing." I would love to have the transcript of that monologue. It was hilarious. LOL!

LOL! I missed it. Thanks for the morning laugh!

Further, that if any of these purple hearts were falsely awarded, that you would not have been eligible to leave Vietnam after serving only four months.

John Kerry - the Eric Cartman of combat. "Sc**w you guys, I'm going home."

I have a sneaking suspicion he is going to apologize for his actions after he got back from Vietnam.

Based on the picture on the thread, John Glenn will be accompanying Kerry to the speech and probably introduce him like McCain did for Bush. Says something about Kerry's mindset that he needs a real war hero to back him up and give him so credibility. I wonder if old Max will be there as well. I bet that he would have gone alone if it weren't for the SBVFT. How times have changed.

The campaign source said that the book was not considered a "serious" problem for the campaign, because, "the media wouldn't have the nerve to come at us with this kind of stuff," says the source. "The senior staff believes the media is committed to seeing us win this thing, and that the convention inoculated us from these kinds of stories. The senior guys really think we don't have a problem here."

This comment by the Kerry campaign from August 10th tells you everything you need to know about the otherwise seemingly crazy Dem convention strategy of focusing on, of all things, the Vietnam War. The 71 speech to Congress just had to be dealt with and the Kerry people knew it. Unfortunately for them, the "inoculation" didn't work because the Swifties had the goods on Kerry, enough money to get an ad campaign going and a book written and publicized.

And, most of all, the Blogs and Talk Radio were on their side and working 24/7 and Fox News refused to join the MSM boycott of the story. A powerful combination that I'm sure will be analyzed to death by the Dems and the Pubbies and will certainly be the focus of a McCain-Feingold II bill aimed at further eroding if not destroying our First Amendment rights to freedom of speech.

Agreed... rather him be received coldly than rudely.

BTW, Lurch has no business making this speech... just shows how low-class the RATS are to have him on the stump this week.

After Zell Miller speaks tonight, Kerry's gonna wish he stayed in Nantucket.

Tonight, the American people are gonna get their first true taste of just who John Kerry is.

won't happen... GOP only moved on McCain-Feingold to get the issue off the table for this election cycle and nail down McCain's support for the president's re-election.
