PLEASE READ

As someone who went through Hurricane Andrew, I need to mention something that I don't hear people talking about. Make sure you find your house insurance policy! Put it inside of a ziplock bag and keep it with you at all times. If your area does get slammed, this is going to save you a lot of trouble. While you are at it, make sure you do the same with any other important papers. Titles for vehicles, vehicle insurance policies, birth certificates, and other items.

Excellent advice killjoy. You should safeguard all your important documents, but that policy could shortly become the most important piece of paper you own.

As a veteran of the Northridge earthquake, I can add another important tidbit: Keep some green cash handy; cash is king when there's no power and credit cards can't get processed.

As another who went through Andrew in Homestead, I second that!!!! Also store up plenty of water, canned food, crackers and Peanut butter and Charcol. Also cover your clothes in the closets. They will get covered with insulation partilcles and will be unwearable. If you can get a generator now get it!! It will cost $1,000 after the storm. God Bless!

Good Advice Bump! I'd add consideration of photos, albums and negatives - irreplaceable. Stay safe! (Tampa Bay - former target of H. Charley)
