Welcome to Wednesday's Hurricane Frances news-twist !
It looks like a Melbourne Landfall after all, once again (to Section9's worst fears) churning it's way North along the Coast Highway ...

Just north of Tamiami Airport. About 1 mile north of Country Walk.
The local Sears was getting in a shipment of generators tomorrow. They were taking prepays on Monday and Tuesday.
You may want to call or run by a local Sears tomorrow or Friday and see if you can find any.
I ordered one off the internet from a company in CA and it was OVERNIGHTED! even though payment was for only 2-3day air.
Denial is not a river in Egypt. Call him back.
Scary!
I was in Perrine, east of the highway.
Really hoping and praying not to have to go through that again. Not to mention how scary these things are.
The whole neighborhood was guarded for weeks afterwards with National Guard troops. 82nd Airborne also came in, camped a block away, at Southwood.
Sorry...last night.
Gracias.
Geez....... well, now that you mention it...... :-)
With respect to Mr. Cosgrove's obvious knowledge, I strongly suspect that it was written well before the new data. His opinion agrees with the Accuweather expert, and I fully respect that. Reading that 11pm discussion page made me go "uh oh...".
Yea, I have a ton of pictures from Andrew. The 82nd Airborne guys were really cool. I am in Boca Raton now and it is not going to be pretty.
Just called and they are out. I'm seriously considering dismantling my car port seperator and using as much as I can on the windows....
OOPS!
Sorry for the double post.
Best of luck to all of us Floridians.
Started putting up shutters today, a day later than I said I would. Going to finish in the morning, I guess.
Considering a flight to Key Largo at the last minute, unless they raise a hurricane watch there as well.
We need to find out who has the most sturdy house so we can have a hurricane party. :)
Probably it's Blam's house.
Who is in charge of planning the caravan? :)
I have enough diet coke, rum, and chips to last about 5 days.
Ohhh geeeze, they had some about an hour ago, my parents went and grabbed 1 piece they needed. Maybe in the morning when the overnight shipments come in?
Nah...just meet at Biloxi at the casinos.
I stuck my neck out last week on another thread.

I've been basing half of what I'm looking at on the forecast discussions coming from the PAC NW to the western Plains. The only way that ridge will break down/move out is with a kick from the west. And it still doesn't look like it's gonna happen in time to keep Frances out of FLA. The trough over the Rockies is going to dig deeper than previously thought, deepening a little more and sharpening the pressure gradient of the eastern ridge. And that latest infrared loop shows the ridge very well in place. Frances herself could strengthen the high. Strong hurricanes have an associated anti-cyclonic (clockwise) ratation with them. Frances has a great example of that. Check out this link and notice how the outer periphery of the storm shows that classic clockwise spin, opposite the inner system cyclonic spin:

The air along this extreme outer ring will sink, warm and reinforce any high pressure ridge in its vicinity.
Here is an explanation:
"The warm, sinking air makes the atmosphere stable, so warm air at the surface of the Earth cannot rise far before it stops. This prevents tall clouds from forming. For this reason, anticyclones usually lead to warm, dry weather and cloudless skies particularly in the summer (cold in winter), which usually lasts for several days or even weeks.
Anticyclones are much larger than cyclones, and may block the path of depressions, forcing it to travel elsewhere: either slowing down the bad weather, or forcing it round the outside of the high pressure system."

I'm learning as I go here. Give me a supercell any day over these slow moving monsters!
