Personally, I didn't think the Kerry girls gave that good a speech either, the hamster story was rather silly, imo.

I just posted the following on another thread on the same topic:

After reading Freeper reaction to the Twins' 'performance' tonight both on the LIVE thread and now here, I have just one comment: It's obvious to me that many of you have not spent ANY time recently on a high school or college campus!!!

The Twins' were NOT speaking to impress the over 25 crowd; they were speaking (authentically) to the 18-24 year old demographic -- not a group that typically votes Republican!

I gauged the Twins success by monitoring the reaction of my teenage son and his friends -- who, by-the-way, are considered the coolest of the cool at their Catholic high school! Bottomline: They were so impressed with the Twins (HOT!) that they decided to watch the First Lady's entire speech! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! [Two of the guys who were leaning toward Kerry are now leaning toward Bush (my son will make sure they vote the RIGHT way). Why the change? The Twins convinced them that Republicans aren't the clueless nerds they thought they were!!!]

I posted this on another thread, but thought it should be posted on this one:

I know people are criticizing the Bush girls because they came off as "ditzy" and "immature". People are saying that the Kerry girls won the First Kids battle. I totally disagree.
I am a senior in high school, so speaking from first hand experience dealing with teenage girls, young girls/women in America are not like the Kerry girls. They are like the Bush girls. I am not saying they are all ditzy stupid, but they are full of life and simply happy people. They aren't overly concerned with how smart otheres think they are, but more on having fun. The Bush family looked like an American family. And that will only help George W. in November.

I seriously think they wrote this themselves; it was that bad.

I found the Bush girls completely charming. Were they funny? No, but most people speaking before a large audience trying to be funny fall flat.

They brought home to me what I like best about George W and Laura Bush: That they are like the people you meet in real life. Very natural and human.

Most politicians and their families (in both parties) appear very plastic and unnatural. I guess that some would have liked to hear them dissertate on some foreign or domestic policy. That would have been a creepy-clintonesque ploy to me.

Good Evening All-

Not to rain on a parade, but Jenna & Barbara were mediocre at best. It's water under the bridge, but I feel their time onstage could have been spent much more effectively. They're just kids, but they should have been put up there with MUCH better material scrolling on the teleprompters.

"Dad's last campaign....we need something to do for four years, Dad too....not that hip....lame Karl, Condi, Andy, & Dick jokes....etc., etc."

Not worth sweating, but they should be maintained in non-speaking roles for the rest of the campaign. The only exception should be if the discussions are specifically aimed at voters in the 18-24 years of age category.

The girls are young and unaccustomed to making speeches, and it showed. But they are cute as hell --- much cuter than the Kerry girls --- and that will get them points, and possibly votes for Dad, in their age group.

John John also delivered an awkward speech when he introduced Uncle Teddy some years back and he was older than the Bush girls at the time. It is no small thing to speak in so intimidating a setting. I'd like to see some of the Bush girls' critics on this thread try it and see how well they do.

The person that put their act together for the convention should be restricted to cleaning the bathrooms from now on. It was lame and kind of crude.

At least they don't claim to be experts on things they know nothing about, unlike Ron Reagan Jr.

I think it was a good move on the part of organizers to bring the bar down a few notches after Arnold's magnificent speech last night.

After Mccain and Juliani, I thought Arnold would flop, but he was excellent. Putting the First Lady on right after Arnold would have put a lot of pressure on Laura. The First Twins and the President provided a perfect buffer between the two speeches.
