Liberals in Denial: New Republic Editor Gives Rudy a 'C' for his Speech
Inside Politics - CNN

Posted on 08/31/2004 1:03:18 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

"Mommy, make it go away!" That kind of pull-the-blanket-over-the-head denial was just on display from the youthful editor of the liberal New Republic.

Judy Woodruff, of CNN's Inside Politics show, was interviewing three journalists about the McCain and Giuliani speeches. The theme was to look ahead to possible 2008 candidacies and to grade last night's speeches.

Peter Beinart, the New Republic editor, went first. He gave Rudy a 'C,' claiming that as a mayor he had little foreign policy experience and that it showed in his speech. He gave McCain a 'B' for showing more foreign policy expertise.

As an aside, the woman reporter from the Christian Science Monitor gave both an A- and Johan Goldberg of the National Review agreed, while saying that he perhaps gave Rudy slightly higher marks because he seemed to be speaking so directly to the candidates. Goldberg expressed shock at Beinart's grading. "I have no idea what you're talking about!"

Beinart was in full Black Knight (of Monty Python fame) mode. If Kerry & Co. don't realize they've been badly wounded, they're finished.

Beinart is a regular on Hugh Hewitt's radio show. The guy is a lunatic and Hugh tries to keep him rational, which is impossible. Beinart's still pushing the Christmas in Cambodia story for Kerry. LOL

I can hardly wait to hear what Hugh has to say about this little screed by old Pete.

Beinart could also use some voice lessons -- irritating little voice.

I'd give Rudy an "A" for the content, but a "B+" for delivery (being a public speaking instructor...)

I think he may have been too focused on the content (he's good a ad-libbing and speaking from memory), but didn't seem comfortable with stopping for the applause periodically...

So forgive me if it's harsh...the message was perfection for the intended audience, but the delivery, IMHO, needed some polish.

McCain, the same thing, but he'd get an A for delivery for seizing the moment, and repeating it, on Michael Moore...a galvanizing moment.

"Where(ass)hole"
Sir, have a care, do not mock this sport of Churchill unless you have personal experience.

Did you see Woodruff's piece with George Allen. First question: Senator, today a group of "mainstream" Republicans took out an ad....

I did see the piece, and even went to the web site that was mentioned. I suspected that my RINO congressman was on it.

Turns out it's a bunch of doddering old semi-embalmed Republicans wanting to bring back the "good old days" of Bob Michel and the permanent congressional minority.

Is the vulagarity directed at a fellow FReeper really necessary? We're not putting down fox hunters, just having a little fun with Kerry.

LOL. Perhaps we could relabel the limbs with state names: FL, OH, PA, etc!

I posted at the Kerry-Edwards campaign blog that JK really needs to do more middle-class sports, like fox hunting, lacrosse, or greco-roman wrestling.

Good show, old chum! Perhaps he could follow with a rousing game of backgammon down at the club with the fellows, sipping from a snifter of good Cognac.

Maybe. But I don't think Rudy is one to tap dance around things. My impression is he pretty much calls it like he sees it.

I think this merits having both speeches played in full on all the alphabet networks in prime time, so that the people can see just how mediocre they are!

Nothing like letting the little people know that you enjoy a glass of 80-year old tawny port now and then, accompanied by a cigar smuggled from Cuba, of course! Those refugees in So. Florida will certainly be thinking twice about John Kerry, I say!

I know what you mean. I just think it would have been great if Kerry's name was never mentioned, not even once, during the entire convention. Just act like he doesn't even exist.

"Wherehole" is a cry to fellow hunters behind lest they come a cropper.

The vulgarity, which it certainly was, was not necessary for the advancement of Bush's prospects but to preserve hunting from the designs of the left.

I will cordially apologize if you solemnly swear never again to provide fodder to those on the left who would outlaw fox hunting.
