Thank you for posting the transcript, Kaslin. I hope I can watch his speech on tv. I'm going to be out of town, and will be computerless. My daughter could care less about politics, so maybe I can watch Bush's speech somewhere else.

I would like to know where in the constitution this is authorized? The war on terror is one thing, but if an opressed people want liberty, they have to have the will to get it for themselves.
The same parts that authorised the actions taken under the Truman Docrine or the Monroe Doctrine.

Certainly you can comprehend that defeating the terrorists and getting rid of the terrorist states which sponsor them furthers the defense of this country? The Bush's Liberty Doctrine, like the Monroe Doctrine before it, clearly furthers that objective.

I guess it gets into foggy territory at best. For the record, I think the Monroe doctrine was just as bad in the 1800s, because in retrospect, it would have been FAR better for Mexico to fall into the hands of the French than into the hands of the Masons and later Socialists in the 1800s.
But that said, democracy does not allways work, one can see the German elections of 1930 for example to see how Democracy can fail, or more recently the 1970 elections in Chile and the 1992 elections in Algeria. Havning a dictator is not allways a big thing, as long as he keeps the people of his nation in line and from attacking the US.
The constituion does not authorize nation building, it only authorizes defense of the US in strict terms.
