DUBAI (AFP) - The release of two French journalists held hostage in Iraq is "imminent", Al-Arabiya television reported, citing unidentified sources of the Dubai-based channel.

The station reported the news in an on-scree flash, without providing any details.

Contacted by AFP, Al-Arabiya would not give details on its sources.

Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot, who went missing August 20, are being held by a Sunni Muslim group calling itself the Islamic Army of Iraq.

The group gave France an initial 48-hour ultimatum to revoke a controversial law banning Islamic headscarves from state schools but has extended its ultimatum by 24 hours to Tuesday night.

All students in France will now wear headscarves. Non-muslims will now wear white headscarves so that they'll be able to surrender anywhere at any time.

France probably went into a frenzy with the ISLAMIC, TERRORISTS murderers agreeing with them that America was evil and that France would protect Muslims better than America from evil Christians, Hindus and Jews. Then they all started to jump and down, yelling "DEATH TO AMERICA!". IMO.

First the terrorists will release their heads from their bodies, then they will send them back to France.

Any clue WHY?

Does the new name of the French capital give a clue?

The frogs bought them off.

I'm surprised that this would be possible considering the history that exists between the Muslims and the French. Anyone remember what the French did to the local Muslim citizenry of Algeria in 1957? Some of the parallels to the USA's current position in Iraq are interesting.

Looking at the picture, it's obvious that Jacques Chirac and Gerhard Schroeder are in love, and Putin is thinking that I never want to get between these two again.

Must be the call to Arafat worked. At least for these two. If the ban isn't lifted, then it will only be a matter of time before something else happens. jmo

We'll have to watch and see if the ban gets lifted.
