NEW YORK - A GOP delegate handed out more than 200 bandages with purple hearts on them Monday night at the Republican National Convention in a swipe at Democratic nominee John Kerry's war record, but national GOP officials have asked him to stop. The bandages were handed out by Morton Blackwell, a longtime GOP activist from Virginia, with the message: "It was just a self-inflicted scratch, but you see I got a Purple Heart for it."
Kerry won three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a bronze star for his service in the Vietnam War.
Democratic Chairman Terry McAuliffe said it is inexcusable to mock service and sacrifice.
GOP Chairman Ed Gillespie spoke to Blackwell and they agreed that he would not distribute any more bandages tonight.
"This was not a party activity, but he was acting as an individual," said Republican spokesman Jim Dyke.
That should be sweet. I hope there are more than a few veterans ready to express their displeasure with his North Vietnamese/Jane Fonda activities.
My neighbor volunteered to go to Nam when he was in the Korean Army, and upon immigration, he volunteered to go there in the American Army (as an advisor to the Korean Army).
I like my neighborhood ~ we have veterans of dozens of armies, and of all ranks. Some of them even fought each other, and yet others were allies. Great place for a kid to grow up knowing something about the rality of life on this planet.
You should encourage your neighbor to move somewhere else, as would we should he try to live here.
When your neighbor runs for President, he can say he was on the ROTC plan during the Vietnam war.
(Tell him not to mention that ROTC, in his case, stands for "Run Off To Canada")
McAuliffe is certiainly my moral compass.
Your above post made me have an epiphany of sorts.
You know the 'Three Great Lies' - the 1st one being, "the check is in the mail"?
Well...... thanks to you, I just came up with two new phrases for the 'last two' Great Lies;
2 - Islam Is A Religion Of Peace
3 - John Kerry Served Honorably
:-)
Wish I could buy a box of those bandaids.......
As a matter of fact, she wore the button at a MOVEON.org function.
Ah the smell of hipocracy.
He joined the Naval Reserve and was called up he did NOT volunteer. It is most prudent to assume EVERYTHING about him is a lie until proved otherwise. So far everything examined about him shows him to be a FRAUD.
You have a way with lists. Thanks, it made my day.

Someone could make a mint selling these things. I would buy a couple boxes myself.
Any pictures of the bandages?

Your neighbor acted more honorably than Kerry did. At least he didn't betray his comrades-in-arms.
As much as I despised the draft-dodgers, traitors like Kerry and his VVAW buddies were far worse.
I lost far too many school friends and even a brother-in-law in Nam...my conscience will not allow me to let ANYone I know go "uneducated" about Kerry and his best friend Hanoi Jane.
Their behavior was disgusting then, and it is worse now -- it was and is, war-time: Why were they not tried as the TRAITORS they were and are?
Anyone?
LOL....ribbons, bandaids, same diff!
kerry turned the vets who served honorably into public enemies.
Never forget and never forgive.
Needless to say the media kept that statement out of the public eye.
There was a price for going and a price for running away. When do the veterans get their refund?
