Extremely Dangerous Flash Flood Event...Now Underway - Richmond, Virginia

SPOTTER REPORTS INDICATE 10 TO 14 INCHES OF RAIN HAVE OCCURRED FROM THE CITY OF RICHMOND INTO PORTIONS OF KING WILLIAM COUNTY...WITH WIDESPREAD AMOUNTS IN THE 4 TO 8 INCH RANGE FROM CHESTERFIELD AND CHARLES CITY COUNTIES...NORTHWARD INTO CAROLINE AND KING AND QUEEN COUNTIES. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 3 INCHES! ARE POSSIBLE IN THE WARNED AREA.

Reports of fatalities in the City of Richmond.

Numerous rescues are now underway across the entire city.

... Falling Creek Reservoir dam may fail... mandatory evacuations ordered
near the dam in Chesterfield County...

Chesterfield County emergency officials have ordered mandatory
evacuations near the Falling Creek Reservoir dam. Water is now
overtopping the spillway... and dam failure is possible. Those ordered to
evacuate are instructed to go to Meadowbrook High School.

At 9 PM EDT... local law enforcement officials reported widespread
flooding in the warned area... with 70 Road closures.

Reports are that this is some of the worst flooding the city has seen in recent history.

Reports of extensive damage in the city to buildings and houses from flood waters.

The City of Richmond has opened two shelters for people who cannot get home or who have been flooded out of their homes. Residents can go to Huguenot High School or the Arthur Ashe Center.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY , VA -- Chesterfield County has been hit with extremely heavy rains today, resulting in high water on many roadways and isolated flooding conditions. Residents living downstream of the Falling Creek Dam should immediately evacuate to the shelter at Meadowbrook High School , located at 4901 Cogbill Road . This is a mandatory evacuation. Affected areas include: Martha Lane in the City of Richmond Hopkins “Road below the dam Bonnie Brae Court Southmoor Road Meadowbrook Apartments Emblem Drive Kay Road Pat Lane Treetop Apartments Chippenham Square Apartments Hudswell Lane Jeff Davis Highway in the vicinity of Falling Creek Falling Creek Apartments Shady Creek Road Whitewater Court Lower Marina Drive Cogbill Road in the vicinity of Falling Creek Lake Hills Road Those without transportation are urged to seek assistance from a neighbor or family member.
