I've run into Mr. Silver a few times since 9/11. Apparently, we share a real love for the same oyster shack in NYC (AquaGrill on Spring St. & 6th Ave., if anyone's curious). Although I normally don't like people who chat up celebrities as they try to eat, after seeing him there a couple of times, I chatted him up as we both waited at the bar for our tables (Ah, alcohol -- the social lubricant). Had a very nice lil' chat about how Slick Willie seemed to think Osama would be intimidated by Janet Reno's DoJ. A nice who seemed to have honestly gotten his blood up in the wake of 9/11. And, unlike so many celebri-trash, he dressed like a grown-up.

Always liked the guy. Fine actor, good deadpan sense of humor. And now this.

Anyone know how he can be contacted? I'd love to drop him a note to say that his remarks were appreciated.

Ron Silver IS still a liberal. But he's not a Michael Moore kook. He's a 9/11 Democrat who LOVES America. This is one of the best speeches he's ever given. He does us proud and I find myself nodding in agreement its not about party, its about putting the country first. Ron knows when the chips are down, John F*ckin' can't protect America. Only President Bush can. That why he's here tonight in New York, rather than at his party's Convention in Boston. I guarantee you there are lots of Democrats in this country who don't belong to the ABB crowd and they know prescription drug benefits, gay rights, or being pro-choice won't matter if we all wind up dead.

It is hard to believe he is the same one that yelled "these are OUR planes NOW" when the jets went overhead at Clinton's inauguration festivities! Too bad the rest of these losers want to play 1960's instead of joining the real world

I voted for Clinton too the first time - see, I believed he was a New Democrat. Back then I couldn't have known how wrong I was but I figured with the end of the Cold War we could afford to take a chance. He was a brilliant man with political smarts but lacking in character and self-discipline. The good news is his party is where it is today in no small part due to the grossness of his appetite.

Silver gave a fine convention speech. His best line was: "We will never forgive. We will never forget. We will never excuse."

I'd like to see the same kind of anger he showed from other speakers at the convention. It was wonderful!

Silver has been shifting rightward for over ten years now. In 1994, he he endorsed Guliani for mayor, a position which drew some surprise and criticism within liberal circles.

Yes, Ron Silver's words haunted me all through the Clinton years. "Those are our planes now" seemed to represent what I most feared.....the liberal moron control of the military.

I still cannot forgive him for those words or his stupidity in choosing to support the likes of Bill Clinton at that time. All of the warning signs were there concerning Clinton's behavior and I simply cannot respect anyone who failed to see the writing on the wall that was so obvious.

I still think he is a New York liberal who is simply scared to death now that reality has hit home and he realizes that George Bush will protect him more than the other choice in this presidential race. I guess some credit should be given to him, though because most of the liberal morons in the acting field still support the wrong side.

Thanks for the post, and don't worry about the title! Why people get so upset about these things is amazing to me, but I digress!

Ron's speech was awesome, and a real surprise to me.

I'd even go as far to say that you can measure how genuine a liberal's support for gay and womens rights is by whether or not they support the War on Terror.

His speech was awesome!! Reading it seems so much "shorter" than the actual speech. Guess all those robust applauses made it seem longer. I was sooooooooo impressed.
