In running for President, Kerry has problems coming out of his ears. He made a judgement that running as THE mover and shaker of military and foreign policy during the Vietnam War, he obviously opened himself to the scrutiny of those he slandered in those days. He butchered this effort in not figuring out ahead of time how to defuse the issue. Maybe there was no hope. A large majority of those that served in Vietnam likely took being branded as rapists and baby killers a little personally. Kerry built a career on such branding.
Yet what was Kerry to run on. Most liberals (and Kerry is most Liberal) are only proud of their philosophy if they aren't running for office. As candidates they try their best to hide their philosophy.
Kerry adds to the dilemna by being utterly boring when he opens his mouth. Perhaps in the end what you really have is a guy who simply isn't a good presidential candidate. If the press weren't working in overdrive to keep this candidacy alive by assisting the Kerry camp any way possible, his popularity would peak at about 30%, those democrats that vote for democrats no matter what.

I tend to agree with you. Kerry's personal style and attractiveness are about the same today as they were at Yale in 1963 when I first met him. And to put it in plain terms, he was the sort of kid whose mother would tie a pork chop around his neck so the dog would play with him.
Kerry was an obnoxious quasi-geek from the get-go. "Attractive" was never an adjective that a perceptive observer would ever apply to Kerry. So, he never WAS a decent candidate.

The press is working in overdrive all right. Our liberal-socialist rag, the Charleston Gazette, had a big picture of Kerry on the front page of the editorial section, testifying in 1971 against the men fighting in Vietnam, and the article accompanying the picture was praising him for what he did. Many of us are sickened by this, but unfortunately there are those who swallow this propaganda hook, line, and sinker.

Your comment fits my belief that having a "lap dog" media is not necessarily a good thing for a party.
If the media is on your side, you get lazy and careless.
I would think the Democratic Party would be in better shape today (and closer to the views of middle America) if the media was "fair".
To those in the main stream media "the end justifies the means", they have no trouble supporting corrupt and flawed men as long as they say and do the right thing.
The media's hostilities towards Republicans just means they are more likely to be honest (since if they were not, they would be exposed to the world).
So my theory is that the love affair the MSM has with the Democrats is what will destroy them in the end.
May it occur sooner rather then later.
