This happened in Asheville, NC where the hippies and tree huggers have been fighting against the proposed Wal-Mart super center for years (link). Somone repeatedly drove a dumptruck trough the walls of the building under construction.
The article from WLOS:
Vandals hit the construction site of the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Swannanoa River Road overnight. Someone drove heavy construction equipment into the building, creating nearly one million dollars worth of damage.
The vandalism will push the opening of the controversial store back about a month. Workers say security around the site will be upgraded to prevent this sort of incident from happening again.
The construction of the WalMart will be set back, oh, about a week.
Score one for the free market. See ya in Sporting Goods.
Rudolph the Red strikes.
I'll be the one buying white boxes, 9mm and .45 ACP.
Hmm..destroying a Wallmart isn't necessarily the deed of a leftist IMO. Although I'm sure the bots will disagree and call me a nazi and other Buchananesque terms/.
Ah, perhaps you don't know Asheville and the problems this Wal-Mart had in getting off the ground.
10:1 it was envirowacko related.
My guess ... who else could know enough to jump a big machine , do the job and be out before the heat comes ... an angry, experienced heavy equipment operator.
This is not an endorsement from me for or against unions ... just an opinion.
If one knows how to use a clutch and drive a stick shift, one can drive a dump truck around a construction site.
I wonder if these "enviroMENTALists" make thier own clothes?
It's still a feat.
Made from 100% home grown hemp. And when they wear a bit they just smoke them.
Easy enough to predict more private police and lots of cameras around building sites like this one.
Wal-Mart has a reputation for getting in bed with local politicians and getting them to use the power of eminent domain to sieze property from private citizens to aquire land to build their stores if they refuse to sell to Wal-Mart. The Wal-Mart folks usually convince the local "officals" that a Wal-Mart store would bring more tax dollars into the community and therefore the construction there of is for the good of the community and eminent domain is applicable. This has happened all over the country and Wal-Mart has done a fairly good job keeping it quiet. However, Neal Boortz has been following the story for more than a year and regularly updates the situation. You should read about what Wal-Mart did to folks in Alabaster, Alabama, who refused to sell their land. It was sickening and it's not just Wal-Mart doing it.
Without property rights, so much for our "free" society.
A quick summary of local activist's "concern" for a new Wal-Mart in Asheville:

Etc., Etc., Etc.
Once it opens, these same vandals will be shopping there because it is cheaper.
Walmart had its biggest challenge here. The envirowhackos wanted this old bleachery factory to stay there and look hideous. They do not care about jobs or anything beyond their world. Econmically, we need walmart to help the local economy recover from the enormous manufacturing job losses.
True, we live surrounded by beauty. But everything from expanding I26 to six lanes to Walmart has been blocked. I would love to say they should ride bikes and make their own stuff, LOL but they probably already do. Asheville caters to these groups because they have become econmically influential here.
Beautiful area, but I encourage touring Christians to stay out and let Asheville know your tourist dollars will be spent in surrounding conservative towns (hendersonville, brevard, well eveywhere except asheville). Definately not an area to expose children to. Christians need to exert the influences that have put the leftist agenda in the spotlight. Money talks and its the only language they understand. I shop the walmart in hendersonville. Ecoterrorism is serious, but here in Asheville, justice will not be served. They will be applauded. After all, the mayor of Asheville is a satan worshipping witch, FOR REAL.
There are no property rights being violated by Wal-Mart in this case as it is being built on the site of an old Bleachery that has been abandoded for at least 20+ years. No one wanted to buy into the site before because of the cost of disposing of chemically contaminated debris from demolition. Wal-Mart is doing Asheville a favor by cleaning up the Bleachery, when no one else would do it.
The outcry against this location has been 90% from the tree-hugging environuts who DO NOT WANT ANYMORE DEVELOPMENT in their county. It's as much about the "evil corporate empire" Wal-Mart represents as it is about cutting trees to these folks.
They didn't object to the development that brought their own houses, but don't want anyone else to share the area. The entire "anti-WalMart" thing is just a farce anyway.
I gaurantee that a $500,000 reward (from Walmart's insurance company) would lead to the arrest and conviction of the perps who had their fun.
