Clark defends Kerry’s record, slams Bush
The Boston GLobe ^ | August 29, 2004 | Glen Johnson

TACOMA -- Wesley K. Clark yesterday hammered President Bush as ''incompetent" and ''indecisive," as he kicked off a raucous outdoor rally for John F. Kerry before the Democratic presidential nominee ceded the political spotlight for the Republican National Convention this week.

.....''Where was George Bush when young men from Arkansas and Texas and Massachusetts were called to serve their country and went to Vietnam?" Clark shouted as Kerry stood next to him before thousands gathered in a parking lot outside the Tacoma Dome. ''Where was George Bush? He wasn't there. I think it's outrageous that the president of the United States can question the medals and the service and the valor of American veterans who have served."

....While Kerry refused to speak to reporters last week, ostensibly because his staff did not want him to perpetuate the story, he has raised the issue every day in one form or another as polls indicate voters beginning to blame Bush for the attacks.

Yesterday's speech by Clark, who departed the stage and left the rally immediately after his remarks, guaranteed more coverage as the Republicans convened for their quadrennial convention in New York and Kerry left for a working vacation on Nantucket.

Kerry was then introduced by Jim Rassmann, the former Army Green Beret he rescued during one of the battles now questioned by the anti-Kerry veterans.

Afterward, Kerry spokesman David Wade said of Clark: ''Obviously, he's very angry about these attacks. He does not speak for us, though.".....

While Kerry refused to speak to reporters last week

Kerry didn't refuse to speak to reporters last week. In all honesty, the reverse is true.

Yes, I found that interesting too.

Perhaps resume enhancing damage control for when Bush cleans Kerry's clock?

Kerry is in seclusion, unable to expose himself to any but the most sycophantic interviewers, and getting whumped by hundreds upon hundreds of fellow Swift boat veterans, plus former POWs, plus retired admirals, over every aspect of his brief stay in the Mekong Delta.

A vote for Kerry, might get us Clark as Sec. of Defense.....Feature that!!!

Unlikely unless the Senate goes Democratic. He'd have to face a review of his record as Chief of Nato forces. I doubt he wants to go there.

Whenever you hear Alan Colmes talking about the precise pinpointed attacks Bill Clinton made in Kosovo, just remember the bombing of the Chinese Embassy and think to yourself... how pinpointed was that.

His confirmation hearing in the Senate would be interesting nonetheless. It would be absolutely appalling to watch those Democrats defend General Disaster's "War Record".

Very bizarre, to say the least. Other than the Globe leaving out the AWOL chant, this article was pretty fair for the Globe. I particularly liked the explanation for why Kerry won't release his info, and Brinkley's rebuttal.

The mellow crowd, right?! What a joke.

I frequently hear the phrase, "I'm not a wimpy Democrat." I take it seriously. One thing I don't take it to mean is "I'll respect my fellow Americans' opinions that differ to my own." There's a defiant violence behind this phrase, which I understand to have been launched into the public psyche by Michael Moore. Whenever I hear this I think of molotov cocktails, black flags, and the Pentagon Papers.

Fedora's thread about Richard Clarke's Pentagon Papers/VVAW links is fascinating.

And the news, here, is? What? Clark is a pompous, self-promoting a$$-kisser? Clark is pi$$ed off he wasn't put on Kerry's ticket and wants to take it out on Bush? These Dimwits are all so very transparent. Even public school graduates can put this together.

The Kerry campaign also claims that it has released all of the candidate's military records, but the Washington Post has reported it was able to obtain only six of "at least a hundred pages" under its Freedom of Information Act Request.

The lies just keep piling up. We should have kept a spreadsheet to keep track of them all.

Clark is the Klinton general that wanted to start WWIII because the russians took the Kosovo airport. I'm glad he is retired and.

Who know what nonsense this guy could come up with.

The KKK Klinton, Kennedy, Kerry.

I agree, and so I post it below in all it's unabashed glory.

========================================================================

"The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has also called on Kerry to release all of his military records, which he previously said he could not do because of an exclusivity agreement with historian Douglas Brinkley, who recently wrote ''Tour of Duty," a Kerry biography."

"During an interview with The Washington Post published yesterday, Brinkley said he had no objection if Kerry released the records, which include not only Navy documents, but his personal journals.

''I don't mind if John Kerry shows anybody anything," he said. ''If he wants to let anybody in, that's his business. Go bug John Kerry, and leave me alone."

===========================================================================

It would seem some are beginning to get very tired playing liar's poker.

Like Cinton, Kerry will never tire of lying. It's his life!

I think it's outrageous that the president of the United States can question the medals and the service and the valor of American veterans who have served.

Then Wesley Clark and the joker on whose behalf he was stump speaking must not support the U.S. Constitution, under which the President shall act as the commander in chief of the armed forces. As such, if the President learns of evidence which suggests that any military records are wrong (eg. someone appears not to have earned a medal he was awarded), the President is Constitutionally obligated to ask any questions or to conduct any inquiries necessary to correct the military records and to enforce laws which prohibit the falsification of military records.

Doug Brinkley's getting very testy, isn't he? It appears that Kerry has reneged on a promise to turn over his Vietnam journals to the Eisenhower Center for American Studies at the University of New Orleans, which was founded by Stephen Ambrose and is now run by Brinkley. (See UNO Acquires John Kerry's Vietnam Journals, which reveals that two years ago Brinkley chartacterized Kerry's journals as "a cornerstone of a growing collection at the Eisenhower Center of oral histories and other materials related to Vietnam".)

I have written Brinkley an email pointing out the stark irony presented by his center's very active solicitation of oral histories from Vietnam veterans ("Future historians can utilize these first-hand accounts from each veteran [to] capture a higher understanding of the conflict...") at the same time that he is totally discounting the value of the oral histories provided by the swift boat vets ("...there's no documentary evidence to support the charges now against Kerry," Brinkley said. "Whether the charge is against Aaron Burr or John Kerry, I have to see the documentary evidence.")

I think it's starting to dawn on Brinkley that he's hitched on for his own dangerous tour of duty behind a man who has a long history of dropping grenades too close to his rear end.
