the President has let his many detractors exhaust the political capital of their obsessions.I've been saying this for months... I should probably learn to write better; then I could seem like a noble journalist when only pointing out the obvious.

Mark Steyn is usually spot on, and I'm hoping he is dead on in this analysis. I too feel like this will be a runaway election and pray that it happens every day. Every logical instinct tells me this but the polls have just now started to move. I know the polls lie a lot, especially this long before the elction.
Seems to me that the polls will start to have Dubya pull away a LITTLE after the convention and call it the normal "bounce", but I'm hoping it's just a misread of a near landslide!

He notes that young George "was a very avid and skillful poker player" when he was a Business Administration student and that "one of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand I knew it! GW is a poker player with well practiced check-raise skills! Strategery indeed!

So the most likely outcome this November is an increased Republican majority in the House, a couple of extra Senate seats, and a second term for Bush. From your keyboard to God's ears, Mark!

I like the poker analogy, but I thought that Bush must have been a chess player. Same type of sandbagging, deception, and "offering up a pawn to get a rook" scheme. The libs have been tied in knots for the last 3 1/2 years, pushing a rook to take a pawn and falling right into a trap.
Bush has taken away a lot of lib platforms, and they are left with a naked king, protected by a set of useless pawns.
