the President has let his many detractors exhaust the political capital of their obsessions.

I've been saying this for months... I should probably learn to write better; then I could seem like a noble journalist when only pointing out the obvious.

Sort of like two guys going out for an old-tyme pistol duel - the first guy gets off his shot quickly and misses completely, then stands there defenseless as the second slowly, carefully, deliberately raises his pistol and......

in contrast to Senator Kerry's weird up-the-Mekong-without-a-paddle routine.

This guy's priceless.

Mark Steyn is usually spot on, and I'm hoping he is dead on in this analysis. I too feel like this will be a runaway election and pray that it happens every day. Every logical instinct tells me this but the polls have just now started to move. I know the polls lie a lot, especially this long before the elction.

Seems to me that the polls will start to have Dubya pull away a LITTLE after the convention and call it the normal "bounce", but I'm hoping it's just a misread of a near landslide!

The Democrats are betting their brains out on a couple of jokers who both share a first name.

it's a travesty of a farrago:

Had to look that one up:

"A confused mixture; (a farrago of facts and myth about Abraham Lincoln.)"

He notes that young George "was a very avid and skillful poker player" when he was a Business Administration student and that "one of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand

I knew it! GW is a poker player with well practiced check-raise skills! Strategery indeed!

And lets hope that his adversaries continue to "misunderestimate" him.

any saggy nudists or trust-fund anarchists who succeed in pulling off some camera-worthy stunt in Manhattan this week will only be boosting the President.

The guy DOES have a way with words!

So the most likely outcome this November is an increased Republican majority in the House, a couple of extra Senate seats, and a second term for Bush.

From your keyboard to God's ears, Mark!

"but 15 per cent of Democrats - mainly "conservative Democrats - are planning to vote for Bush."

Must be a typo. Should be 25%.

Every time I start reading one of Steyn's masterpieces, I think, he can't top the last one. And I'm wrong every time.

I'd call Kerrys' hand a pair of dueces. Himself and Edwards.

Bush is down pat with a full house.

I like the poker analogy, but I thought that Bush must have been a chess player. Same type of sandbagging, deception, and "offering up a pawn to get a rook" scheme. The libs have been tied in knots for the last 3 1/2 years, pushing a rook to take a pawn and falling right into a trap.

Bush has taken away a lot of lib platforms, and they are left with a naked king, protected by a set of useless pawns.
