A big test for Kerry will be the reception he receives at the American Legion Conference.
Hope he gets a boot in his bass.

Nope, nope, I just listened to Capital Gang and there is no way Dubya can win. Al Hunt knows this so it must be true. Feh.

Steyn seems to nail it. If I could write as well as he does, I would have said the same.

Steyn is a genius - my second favourite columnist behind Michael Gove, who writes for the Times (UK version, not NYT!) and is about to become a Tory MP.

He notes that young George "was a very avid and skillful poker player" when he was a Business Administration student and that "one of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand.Well that sure explains why he's bluffing on his economic policies.

I see Dubya as a man who knows his own mind, his own priorities and doesn't allow the other person to dictate the terms of the debate.

Does anyone seriously think Kerry appeals to white rural males? A poll in The Los Angeles Times shows that 3 per cent of Republicans are voting for Kerry, but 15 per cent of Democrats - mainly "conservative Democrats" - are planning to vote for Bush. A crucial sliver of Democrats seem to recoil from Kerry the way effete elite Europeans recoil from Bush. Unfortunately the former, unlike the latter, can vote.Mark hits the gut of the issue. Euro elites love Kerry and Kerry loves them. But the common man?
The Common man is frightened by Kerry's Pie in the sky theories of how the world works

Bush's speech will also have jokes. What's great about Bush's humor is that it is often self-deprecating and it isn't mean-spirited or bitter. He can loosen up and laugh at himself a little, unlike the stiff-as-a-board Kerry who walks around like his underwear is three sizes too small.

Does Mark Steyn ever sleep? How many columns does he write in a week? The man is the Energizer bunny of pundits (not to mention a genius).

"15 per cent of Democrats - mainly "conservative Democrats" - are planning to vote for Bush--"
The above stat, if true, represents 3% of the voters polled. Shifting 3% to the President plus the base plus half of the undecided and we have a winner.
