Protesters at Home of Swift Boat Backer
Associated Press ^ | 28 August 2004 | KRISTEN HAYS

NASSAU BAY, Texas - Nearly 40 protesters gathered Saturday at the home of the chief financial backer of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, whose ads criticize Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites)'s military record.

Bob J. Perry didn't appear to be at his suburban Houston home and didn't answer three doorbell rings by several veterans wanting to hand-deliver a letter asking him to stop supporting the group.

"We deeply resent what he's doing to the veterans," said Richard Zaner, 70, a Korean War veteran who lives in the same suburb as Perry, a wealthy homebuilder.

Kerry supporters chanted "Hey, hey, ho, ho, your stinkin' ad has got to go." A Nassau Bay policeman was parked nearby.

Bill Miller, Perry's spokesman, said this week that Perry provided at least $100,000 to help found the group at the request of his friend John O'Neill, a Houston lawyer who co-wrote a book questioning Kerry's military record. Miller also said that Perry, who doesn't grant interviews, was in Mexico this week.

The ads challenged Kerry's Vietnam service for which he received five medals. The ads said Kerry didn't deserve his Purple Hearts, lied to get his Bronze Star and Silver Star and unfairly branded all veterans with his 1971 congressional testimony about atrocities in Vietnam.

The Kerry campaign rebutted the ads with Navy records and witnesses who served with him. Kerry contends the group is a front for President Bush (news - web sites)'s re-election campaign. Bush denounced the ads Monday after they were no longer on the air.

Turn about is fair play but they have to stay behind the barracades. I do seem to remember a bunch of folks asking Al Gore to get out of Cheney's house.

Bush denounced the ads Monday after they were no longer on the air. SO: Neither Bush nor the leftists saying "hey hey ho ho the ads have to go"....believe in the 1st Amendment.

I see NO difference in Bush or the protesters.

We're positive, not negative and protesting is essentially a negative activity.

When the Tennessee Legislature tried to pass a state income tax a bunch of us went to Nashville to protest at the state house. None of us thought it was negative.

We have jobs. We have class.

We all have jobs, and I like to think we have some class too (well there was one guy that...never mind, that's another story).

Anyway, the politicians backed down, and we all went home happy as hogs in slop.

Never underestimate the power of a protest - the left doesn't.

Good find. From statement signed by Zaner: During the Vietnam War we were ordered to destroy Vietnam from the air and on the ground. At My Lai we massacred over 500 women, children and old men. This was not an aberration, it's how we fought the war.

"I see NO difference in Bush or the protesters".

Let me help you with that. President Bush is locked in a heated campaign, laden with mines and bobby-traps. He is practicing the fine art of maneuvering through them.

The "protesters" are the maggot-infested hippies, with moss-green teeth, and greasy unkempt hair! Oh yea.... they smell bad too!

Ten members of "moveon" paid by Soros, and 30 MSM members.

Was George Bush there too?

He's planning on suing those who criticize him as well.

My conclusion is that even the protestors don't believe this man burned villages, cut off limbs and ears, raped women, and fired indiscrimminately at civilians as Kerry claims happened.

I mean if you thought someone had done all that would you stand on their lawn and taunt them ?

Just shows their hypocrisy.

Sounds like it was written by Kerry!

They'd better protest at my house, then, because I've supported the Swift Boat Vets financially and will continue to do so as the campaign progresses. Bring it on!

Last I heard over 10,000 had contributed to the Swiftees, could be more by now. Why is Perry the only lucky guy to be visted by protests?

They could come to my home. First a shower with the hose, then let the dogs have an opportunity to chase fresh meat.

They specialized in political intimidation, thuggery....

Watch the film "Cabaret" sometime and replay the scene where Michael York's character is beat up by Brownshirted thugs.
