Kerry citation a 'total mystery' to ex-Navy chief
August 28, 2004
BY THOMAS LIPSCOMB
Former Navy Secretary John Lehman has no idea where a Silver Star citation displayed on Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's campaign Web site came from, he said Friday. The citation appears over Lehman's signature.
"It is a total mystery to me. I never saw it. I never signed it. I never approved it. And the additional language it contains was not written by me," he said.
The additional language varied from the two previous citations, signed first by Adm. Elmo Zumwalt and then Adm. John Hyland, which themselves differ. The new material added in the Lehman citation reads in part: "By his brave actions, bold initiative, and unwavering devotion to duty, Lieutenant (jg) Kerry reflected great credit upon himself...."
Asked how the citation could have been executed over his signature without his knowledge, Lehman said: "I have no idea. I can only imagine they were signed by an autopen." The autopen is a device often used in the routine execution of executive documents in government.
Kerry senior adviser Michael Meehan could not be reached for comment on Kerry's records.

I've Got EVERYTHING CROSSED!!!!!
Well glory be ... somebody is actually going to look at the source! Good luck correcting the folks here who labor under false impressions.

Sometime yesterday -- it may have been last night -- I looked up and saw somebody on MSNBC, a man, whom I had not seen before.
But the caption said NAVY: Documents contradict Kerry.
Did anybody else see this?
Correctamundo! My four years in Zagland bring nothing but fond memories to me. Great school in a great city!
Maybe, he had a paramour on the "inside" that got the document for him. We already know this explanation would be perfecttly accepatable to the dem party of idiots.
"Well...Kerry wanted Viet Nam to be the centerpiece of his campaign. Looks like it might just be!"
It is like this arrogant POS, Kerry, sets up a bear trap, called his Nam record, hollers look at me, and then he steps on the trap's trigger. Now that it has him trapped, he is whining about it.
You know the media is at war with itself on this. On the one hand it is pulling for Kerry. On the other hand, it smells a BIG story. If Kerry looks any weaker in the polls, the media will move in for the kill, figuring he'd lose anyway, might as well get a good story out of it. Besides, if Kerry goes down with the media defending him still, then it would look worse for them in any post-election analysis. But if they take Kerry down themselves, they avoid that judgment.
MOD,
SORRY, won't happen again, got excited there for a minute.
If it is an autopen signature, shouldn't it match other such signatures on record?
Then I'll need a glossary. Or, at least, an Acronym Bootcamp.
J Fraud Kerry!
What a great use of words!
Anyone else hearing TAPS!
Nobody has provided SOP for providing replacement citations for Vietnam era awards, as of the time the Lehman-signed citations were produced.
Even if the replacements were a "favor" for a Senator, they recite virtually the same language as the original citations.
There is no big story in the replacements, except that Kerry lied when he said he didn't throw his medals away, he only threw his medals. In light of fabricating a record to get the awrads in the first place, and lying about atrocities (under the authority of being an eyewitness and participant), throwing away medals and lying about it is small potatoes.
"Hanged On His Own Petard"!
"Let's watch and see how they spin out of this. Of course with the MSM on their side, you may never see this anyplace else."
Well Drudge has it.
The Sun Times has it, and a relative back in Illinois emailed about the Sun Times Article. So no it is on Free Republic.
I'm sure that Hugh, Sean and Rush will be discussing this next week.
So even if the MSM spikes this story, it will have legs.
