No, this can't be.
I'm sure they were just a coupe of simultaneous isolated incidents.

Putin made a big mistake. He should have partnered with us in Afghanistan and Iraq which would have led to adding the Chechen jihadists to the list of garbage to be swept up.

As I understand, this RDX can be disguised in something as small as a bar of soap. How can airport security stop this from being brought aboard a plane in someone's carry-on luggage?

And why would FIVE operators be needed for a bomb?
The shoebomber acted alone.

And Debka (normal caveats apply) claims it was a failed
hijack attempt, with Putin's location as the target.
This is consistent with the headcount of 5.

Also some speculation that the planes might have been
shot down by Russian air defense, and if so, we won't
learn of it until the collapse of the new Russia.

Dog... Wasn't there a comment in the past few days about 'spiders'? I can't recall who said it, but thought it was in conjuntion with muslim extremists.

'Black Widows' are spiders.

How deep into that ABC article do we have to read before they mention ISLAMIC? The average person has no clue that so-called Chechen Separatists are radical Islamicists! And the MSM wants to keep it that way.

I don't mean to minimize the deaths of these 90 innocents and these acts were certainly cowardly and vile but they are about 2,800 deaths of innocents shy of being a 9/11.

The ragheads better watch out. they pi$$ off the Russians and I don't think they will be able to take shelter in so-called "holy sites" anymore. The Russians will level the places without a though about it.

In the statement, a group called the Islambouli Brigades said it had five mujahedeen, or holy fighters, on board each aircraft.

This is an odd name for a Chechen group. Khalid al-Islambouli was the name of one of the assassins of Anwar Sadat. The choice of name would make more sense if Egyptians such as Ayman al-Zawahiri were involved.

Although it is not known if the Islambouli Brigades has any link to al Qaeda, a group with a similar name claimed responsibility for last month's attempt to assassinate a senior Pakistani official.

Zawahiri has been reported to be in Pakistan.

My guess is that 5 people on each plane, 4 made a distraction and then the 5th (assuming a shoe bomber) made her way to the bathroom and set off the explosive

National Post ^ | Aug. 27, 2004 | Stewart Bell
Stewart Bell National Post A captured al-Qaeda operative has told Canadian intelligence investigators that a Montreal man who trained in Afghanistan alongside the 9/11 hijackers was responsible for the crash of an American Airlines flight in New York three years ago. Canadian Security Intelligence Service agents were told during five days of interviews with the source that Abderraouf Jdey, a Canadian citizen also known as Farouk the Tunisian, had downed the plane with explosives on Nov. 12, 2001. The source claimed Jdey had used his Canadian passport to board Flight 587 and "conducted a suicide mission" with a small bomb...
