Then people can go back in retrospect to the Democrat convention, where the protesters weren't covered and all the protesters that managed to be seen, made sense.

We can't fault you for not remembering the Democratic convention of 1968 in Chicago, but it was so wild with protesters, and many of them violent, that the Chicago police had to engage them with crowd control tactics guaranteed to mess up democrat's plans.
Their antics were so successful that Richard Nixon, the person most hated by the media and the left wing of the United States, was elected president, having lost to John Kennedy just eight years earlier.
Viva the left wing.

The more people see Kerry's supporters, the less they like him.
I'm not even sure we need a Republican Convention. But I think that some Democrats who are starting to wonder about Kerry will be finally swayed to the right after contrasting the Bush folks with the punked out, Kerry Kool-aid Brigade.
