The greatest battle ever fought on the North American continent and the historical aftermath of this titanic contest have been lost forever in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. On the same grounds where Robert E. Lee, John Buford and John Reynolds fought for principles they held dear to them, Gettysburg College has decided that political correctness is more important than its historical identity.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans hereby alert all of our members and friends to attend the rally to be held on September 2 and September 3 at Gettysburg College to protest the College sponsored art exhibit featuring the hateful anti-Southern artwork of John Sims.
It has become apparent that neither Gettysburg College nor Gettysburg appreciates the value of Southern tourism. The valor exhibited by Confederate soldiers in this decisive battle is no longer important to officials of Gettysburg or Gettysburg College. The Confederate Battle flag is an honored flag flown on the battlefield by our Confederate soldiers. By promoting what the college calls art in which any intelligent person can see is nothing but thinly disguised hatred, the Sons of Confederate Veterans have decided that an economic boycott of the Gettysburg area will commence on September 3. And millions of American citizens with a love of the South and their Confederate heritage have been deeply offended.
Commander-in-Chief Denne Sweeney hereby calls on all members, families, and friends to avoid Gettysburg and not to spend any money in the Gettysburg area. All people concerned with the anti-Southern bigotry of this area should alert friends, media, and anyone concerned with the growing problem in Gettysburg so that this boycott will become nationwide and not just regional.
After September 3, Gettysburg is to be avoided whenever vacation plans are being made. Please pass this on to all media, lists and Internet services for widespread distribution.

this is going to stop Gettysburg tourism? BWAHAHAHAHA!
I go down there once a year, in October, and you can hardly walk the streets with all the tourists. You have to reserve a room months in advance.
Yup, these ole boys are a-whistlin' "Dixie".
Guess you married a virgin? Hard to find those at 40.
*sigh* more hate for the south...
how often must we appologize and for how long should we hang our heads down in shame when we have done nothing wrong?
So, have you written to Lubar yet to ask why he's not supporting your argument about cotton picking machines?
I hope you don't think *I* was calling Lincoln a tyrant! I was quoting some of the comments!
... but I'd still grab a few brewskis :^)
Yeah, but when I wrote that I was referring to Scottsh invasion of England. :^)
She sure never complained to me.
Actually, I believe some of Lincoln's most ardent hagiographers called him a tyrant. They just explained that being a tyrant was what was needed at the time to save the Union.
Some good friends of mine refer to him as "the Tyrant Lincoln" and certainly do not intend any kindness in that epithet. Others (including many here) insist he was without faults and is thus the patron saint of as well as the founder of the Republican Party.
This will not stop tourism, but (if followed) would have a serious impact on one type of merchant - the sutlers who cater to the reenactors. Since a substantial part (presumably about half) of their business is from those of us in gray, a boycott could drive some of them out of business.
It will also make Remembrance Day kind of interesting. For the ten years or so I have been marching in the parade, Confederates have represented about half of the marchers and a significant portion of the ceremonies.
I know what is meant by sometimes you need a tyrant. Giuliani was a real sunuvabch. But was he ever needed!
Go to Gettysburg when it's not the high tourist season. Go during the week, and go walk around the actual battlefields. You can feel the oppressive sense of what happened there. It's an eerie feeling (as opposed to what you feel in Eeerie PA) when you are nearly alone on the battlefields where so many died. I felt that long before I knew I had a g-g-uncle who was captured at Gettysburg and later died in a prison hospital in Richmond, at 18. It was a tragic war. While slaves won freedom, the states did in fact lose their freedom from oppressive federal government as demonstrated 75-100 years later with the court rulings from the 30's on...
imVho, they are PITIFUL.

lincoln, the TYRANT & destroyer would have allowed the killing of EVERYBODY in the country to keep him & his cabal of thugs in power.
he was just about POWER. nothing more;nothing less.

CRUEL,ARROGANT,SELF-RIGHTEOUS,RACIST,SELF-SERVING,STUPID & EVIL.
which is what we southrons have always said of them.
that's also why the only HONORABLE solution to the situation is DIXIE FREEDOM.
NOTE to our reader: being northernborn no more condemns you to being a damnyankee than it forces you to be a plumber. DAMNYANKEE is a LEARNED, unthinking PREJUDICE, which is functionally NO better than racism.

i find it amusing too that so many damnyankees still bow down daily to lincoln, their secular/clayfooted saint.
you would think they were smarter than that! (perhaps it's that northern, PC "publick screwl edumakashun" that's to blame.)

LOL.
NOW, the Confederate Veteran magazine runs ads (FREE of charge) for the SUVCW & we have memorial ceremonies together to honor BOTH sides. (YES, there were some brave & true lads in blue;they were BRAVE & HONORABLE while serving a poor cause.)!
passing strange!
