The greatest battle ever fought on the North American continent and the historical aftermath of this titanic contest have been lost forever in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. On the same grounds where Robert E. Lee, John Buford and John Reynolds fought for principles they held dear to them, Gettysburg College has decided that political correctness is more important than its historical identity.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans hereby alert all of our members and friends to attend the rally to be held on September 2 and September 3 at Gettysburg College to protest the College sponsored art exhibit featuring the hateful anti-Southern artwork of John Sims.
It has become apparent that neither Gettysburg College nor Gettysburg appreciates the value of Southern tourism. The valor exhibited by Confederate soldiers in this decisive battle is no longer important to officials of Gettysburg or Gettysburg College. The Confederate Battle flag is an honored flag flown on the battlefield by our Confederate soldiers. By promoting what the college calls art in which any intelligent person can see is nothing but thinly disguised hatred, the Sons of Confederate Veterans have decided that an economic boycott of the Gettysburg area will commence on September 3. And millions of American citizens with a love of the South and their Confederate heritage have been deeply offended.
Commander-in-Chief Denne Sweeney hereby calls on all members, families, and friends to avoid Gettysburg and not to spend any money in the Gettysburg area. All people concerned with the anti-Southern bigotry of this area should alert friends, media, and anyone concerned with the growing problem in Gettysburg so that this boycott will become nationwide and not just regional.
After September 3, Gettysburg is to be avoided whenever vacation plans are being made. Please pass this on to all media, lists and Internet services for widespread distribution.

LOL.
>>They're really quite obsessed with the Civil War and they think everyone else in the country has this stereotype that people south of the Mason-Dixon line are mouth-breathing imbeciles.<<
Cause and effect relationship?
I should tip off that I am having a bit of fun. I certainly do not hold that people south of the Mason-Dixon line are "mouth-breathing" imbeciles. I do question whether the undying fixation on the insurrectionists hurts the South's reputation.
Keep dreaming Mr dangus. The laugh, believe me, is on you.
Believe it or not, I don't think that you're all a bunch of inbred racists down there. Personally, I rather like the south. What I will continue to attack, however, is the insistence by a small group that the south was blameless in the Civil War, that slavery had nothing to do with southern secession, and that all nobility rests in the confederacy and that the Union was entirely rapacious and intent on destroying the south.
These days, I'm leaning mostly toward the reading of the causes of the war provided by Michael Holt, that polticians on both sides, Whig/Republican and Democratic, were guilty, from 1820 through 1860, of demagoguery on the subject for their own electoral gain, polarizing the country and making war inevitable.
I give the southern soldiers full credit for outfighting the Union troops when they could and only succumbing to the greater numbers and greater resources of the north. However, I refuse to allow excuses for slavery, Jim Crow, the KKK or any of the rest of it. And make no mistake, I criticize northern racism just as fully. I come from a town in Illinois that was a hotbed of Klan activity in the 1920s and didn't have a single black person living there until the early 1990s, when a prison was built. It's an ugly thing (the racism, not the prison, although that's ugly, too). I lived in Chicago for ten years and saw what de facto segregation looks like as as opposed to the de jure segregation of the Jim Crow south. I give the south full marks for making a whole lot more progress in race relations over the last 50 years than the north has. I admire the south's economic boom, its respect for tradition and its general social tenor.
Wouldn't it be grand if we could think like that today? Americans died on each side of the line in the Civil War. I respect them all.
I also find the complaint that the battlefield is overrun with monuments to be strange. It's like objecting to all of the tombstones in a cemetary.
As far as the idiot who is undertaking this stupid publicity stunt, we can all be pretty sure he wouldn't have had the stones to fight under either flag in 1863. If the guy wants to protest that flag, do it at the capitol of a Southern State, not at an honored battlefield.
Let me tell you something else, my wife moved to Atlanta in 96. She confessed that northern men are small sized. I said, what do you mean? She replied " about 4 inches". She maintains southern men are much bigger! True story. I guess that combined with the truckloads of money being made, is why we're getting all these good looking women down here from the north. Must be the weather.

I pinged stand watie to this thread to educate you you genius. sw has his work cut out for him!
he is a perfect example of a "publick screwl edumakated" IDIOT!
maybe lincoln, the GREAT BLOODSPILLER & tyrant,
I've always maintained that rebellion against totalitarianism is a good thing.
Probably no more than were lynched by 'sons' of Union veterans. As I recall, Illinois and Indiana were hotbeds of Klan activity. And study who the lynching victims were during the New York draft riots of 1863.
...Present company excluded, of course.
of course, that's what propagandists for the damnyankees do.

I thought Southerners were gentlemen and would never talk about their wives' vast experience with other men.
though i hasten to add H K Edgerton & i would have gone up there to protest the STUPID display at the college, absent the boycott. (i wonder what the arrogantly ignorant, ill-educated,self-righteous, PC,STUPID, REVISIONIST FOOLS at the college would have said about a black man & an indian, in CSA uniforms with battleflags, protesting their hideous display on campus??? i guess we'll never know now.)

You know what Mr Dangus? I'd enjoy buying you a beer, make that multiple beers, and having a good old fshion "sit-down" talk about all this. President Lincoln did what he had to do. I love President Lincoln. It was a terrible thing the Civil War. But I do think a lot of good emerged, many years later from it.I presume you are a northerner. Some of the finest people I know are so damn Yankee, it would make your head spin. The greatest tradgedy of American history would've been the south actually winning the war. We need each other now, more than ever.I'm serious when I tell you, that I can hardly think of President Licoln w/out a tear trying to come out. All we need to defeat islam is the same spirit and conviction displayed by both sides at places like Gettysburg,Antietam,Franklin, and Atlanta.
damnyankess & damnyankee apologists wouldn't know the TRUTH if you handed them a bushel.
i've found that damnyankees are devided into 2 groups:
1. the ignorant &
2. the KNOWING liars.
i can't decide which are worse.
