Survey says whites not majority in Texas anymore

HOUSTON White non-Hispanics are no longer the majority in Texas -- for the first time since the 1800's.

Today's Census Bureau survey says whites stopped being the majority in Texas as of last year.

Also, the numbers show that Texas joined only Illinois and North Carolina in having a poverty rate that measurably increased -- while income decreased -- in 2002-03.

Texas state demographer Steve Murdock says the two trends are related as economic woes have slowed white migration from other states.

Luis Figueroa with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund says the future of Latinos is the future of Texas, as the population numbers show.

Also:

-- Most of the Texas population expansion since 2000 has come from births and international immigration -- both sources of predominantly Hispanic growth.

-- The black population remained basically flat, at around ten-point-eight percent.

-- Asian-Americans now account for about three percent of the Texas population.

Just taking yer stats at face value with no links as back up:

Take the Cuban vote out and your Mex(and others) vote doesn't look tan bueno.

Your 50% of non-hispanic whites voting Dem is inaccurate in 2000 or otherwise Gore would be President. Nobody can win the presidency by getting 50% of the non-hispanic white vote and only 33% of the latino vote and only 10% of the black vote....it's a mathematical impossiblity. If the candidate gets only 50% of the peckerwood vote then he needs a majority of the minority vote obviously...to win.

BTW...I just looked it up. W got 54% of the PW vote ....his dad got 59%....and Reagan even better obviously.

I have little faith in the Mexican Campesino vote in my lifetime and besides have no desire to see the US become another departmento del Mexico culturally.

However, as a nod to latinos...Cubans in particular...without their vote and influence in Dade County...we would have lost.

Oh yes --- they likely would. I know "hispanics" who will not check that off if it's a choice on a form --- they say they will check "Mexican", or "Mexican-American" or "other" but they won't check "hispanic" because they don't believe in that lump-together label as if Mexican=Cuban=Puerto-Rican=Colombian=Guatemalan=etc. Apparently you do believe that.

We're not talking about Americans in this thread --- the population increases in Texas are not caused by Americans moving into Texas by the millions

He has to be told this?

Bah, you really believe that? where did you get those numbers?

There are several different ways to test it. Look around at the Catholic population of each state and look at its demographics. Also, check polling surveys carefully for ethnic breakdowns of the self-reported Catholic population.

Lastly, take a look around at Hispanic neighborhoods, and note the number of Protestant Churches and the paucity of Mass attendance. The Hispanic (mostly Puerto Rican and Dominican) neighborhood in Philadelphia has around 100,000 Hispanics, but only 30,000 Catholics.

These sort of figures can be found around the country. Thus: "According to a September 2001 archdiocesan report on Hispanic ministry: There were 28,162 registered Catholic Hispanics, about 21 percent of the total number of Hispanics." (http://www.chnonline.org/2002/2002-08-22/special_section17.html)

The numbers are higher (although not that much) among Mexicans, but Mexicans are not all of the Hispanics.

The propaganda the USCCB puts out that the Church is 30-40% Hispanic (implying 2 out of 3 Hispanics is a registered Catholic) is total hogwash. They never back it up with hard numbers, and the implication would read the majority of traditional Catholic population (Irish, German, Italian, French, central European, and Polish) out of the Church.

Perhaps you are confusing Hispanics who are cultural Catholics with those who are actual Catholics. Don't do that. The same confusion among non-Hispanic Catholics would increase the number of Catholics from 65 to 85 million.

Why not compare the registered Catholic population of San Antonio with the number of Hispanics in the Diocese? The results might surprise you.

For example, the Diocese of San Antonio has 640,000 Catholics in 1,900,000 people. There are about 900,000 Hispanics in the Docese by the US Census. If 70% of them are Catholic, as many maintain, that would mean every registered Catholic in San Antonio is Hispanic. Hardly true.

Apparently --- and he seems to believe that crap about some "pan-hispanic" thing that doesn't exist --- and also seems to never have heard of "hispanic" voters electing a former border patrol chief named Silvestre Reyes only because of Operations Hold-the-Line and Blockade --- because those hispanics actually don't want open borders either.

Joe....even if they did become Pubbies in a few centuries, do we really want the US to revert to Mexico...for the sake of diversity or cause we owe them.

This is the real Montezuma's Revenge.

The Amerindians are reconquering us via copulation and illegal immigration and plenty cheer it on cause they don't like the dominant Quasi Euro culture here anyhow...they resent us even though that culture they loathe is about the best that's ever been insofar as freedom and economic power for more of everybody.

In Europe, they are being overtaken by the Near Asians and North Africans.

The second and third world's are going to consume the first by sheer numbers. It's inevitable baring cataclysm.

Look, I'm from Texas and I'm with you too and would frankly like all of this illegal immigration stuff to stop very quickly.

The thing most whites from California and Arizona don't seem to understand is that most illegals and Mexicans who have come into the country in those states come from the Baja region of Mexico, a region of Mexico that is notoriously leftist, and that California's generous welfare policy helps encourage their leftist and violent intentions.

In contrast, most Mexicans that get into Texas come from the more conservative part of Mexico, with its centers being Guadalahara and Monterrey are among the most American friendly parts of Mexico. And Texas' welfare policies basically don't exist. In short, if you immigrate here, you have to work. Otherwise, no one will care. Also the illegals here don't vote and don't organize. Tony Sanchez tried to create this, and guess what, it didn't occur except in his home county.

The reason why Democrats are going to have problems in Texas in the future is because they are so disorganized, most of the high-ranking Hispanic politicians that will come into power in the future in this state will be Republican because that's where the upper-class Hispanics in Texas vote. I lived among them. I can tell you how true this is.

Still, immigration should be stopped, period. We need time to assimilate and defuse all of these Hispanics already in this country.

FITZ, I was not even going to touch this issue but..

I've said to you before, do not fear the Hispanics.

Fear the ones that look Hispanic and are named Mohamed. You are confusing the real Mexico and it's history with what the Mexicans coming in will do with the vote (if they legalize and vote).

Enjoy the dialog FITZ and Porterville.

Here's a link to the Las Cruces diocese website which doesn't give numbers but backs up what Hermann says:

http://www.dioceseoflascruces.org/bishop/html/outlook.html

"Among the problematic areas are the following:

Ad Intra:

Large numbers of baptized Catholics who leave the Church to join evangelical groups, especially among Hispanic people.

(some of the other things they list are quite interesting too --- like the number of single mothers, cohabiting, drug abuse, etc)

Hey, if you are able to suggest generalities about Hispanics, I will suggest generalities about Anglos.... (like the use of the word suggest)

By the way, I'm against illegal aliens.

Mexico has been a democracy for some time now --- and I've been there quite often and I've seen what they did with the vote in their own homeland. Why would crossing the Rio Grande or the desert turn them into instant Republicans? It certainly didn't give them instant job skills, education, or health insurance.
