Survey says whites not majority in Texas anymore
KLTV 7 TX ^ | August 26, 2004 | KLTV 7 TX

HOUSTON White non-Hispanics are no longer the majority in Texas -- for the first time since the 1800's.

Today's Census Bureau survey says whites stopped being the majority in Texas as of last year.

Also, the numbers show that Texas joined only Illinois and North Carolina in having a poverty rate that measurably increased -- while income decreased -- in 2002-03.

Texas state demographer Steve Murdock says the two trends are related as economic woes have slowed white migration from other states.

Luis Figueroa with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund says the future of Latinos is the future of Texas, as the population numbers show.

Also:

-- Most of the Texas population expansion since 2000 has come from births and international immigration -- both sources of predominantly Hispanic growth.

-- The black population remained basically flat, at around ten-point-eight percent.

-- Asian-Americans now account for about three percent of the Texas population.

Just like the poor white people who make up the majority of welfare and social programs....

That is because what you are referring to as whites are still around 70-73% of the population here. Proportionately, minorities are considerably more likely to be on the dole than non-hispanic whites.

When it happened in CA the law was suddenly changed to say that groups shouldn't be refered to as "minority."

Read this --- "hispanics" have taken a pretty good leftist swing back home --- they're going back to the PRI party or in some cases the more leftist PRD party.

A PRI renaissance in Baja California

Why on earth does anyone think Mexico is full of Republicans or Conservatives? There is no evidence of that at all.

Texas is a state with a large hispanic population, a large FR presence, and you'll find very little bitching about hispanics by Texans.

Yeah, I actually had a Texan on this site tell me the criminal illegal aliens in Texas are more honorable than everyone else's illegal aliens. Hehehe. That's about the funniest damn thing I've ever heard.

33% of all HISPANICS vote Republican

Sure --- as if there is a Republican party in Mexico, or Guatemala, or Venezuela. Most "hispanics" are leftists.

It is Hispanic, no quotes.... we identify our culture as Hispanic; Don't deny a people of their culture, to a lesser extent it is like denying the culture of cowboys here in the states, or denying the culture of the South...

Is "assimulating" a word? If it is, I'm not sure that I would like to tell people whether they or doing it. Especially in the military, as I didn't think they supposed to ask or tell about such activities.

I've looked into this carefully, and have come to conclude that Hispanics in the US in aggregate are no more than 40% registered Catholics,

I think you're being generous --- you can count the "Catholics" who actually show up at Mass on a Sunday in a town like El Paso and it's not even 10% of the population which is counted as Catholic.

Is that so? What part of America don't you understand? Are there Republican parties in England, France, Germany, or Luxemburg? How about Sweden? Or Norway? Finland?

The stats show it all too plainly.

We are committing national cultural and political suicide here.

No doubt about it.

As some will sit here and try and convince us that all these millions of illegals will somehow turn into good Republican voters. When this happened in California we were told it was all over for us, now it's happening in Texas, and they are telling us they are all going to vote for Republicans.

This is hilarious.

Not to worry Texas can deal. Don't know why but this ringing in my head always tells me "Don't mess with Texas"

Go figure! I never lived in Texas.

Believe me --- you wouldn't get by with calling some Mexicans "hispanic" around here --- they'd crucify you --- they are Mexican. You forget that each type of "hispanic" comes from a different country, with a different history and culture, different foods. Or are you one who thinks every "latino" eats jalapenos? Or a middle class blond Cuban-American is just like a Guatemalan Indian who is here illegally? "Hispanic" means very little actually.

What part of America don't you understand?

We're not talking about Americans in this thread --- the population increases in Texas are not caused by Americans moving into Texas by the millions, it's Mexican citizens moving in --- former and current PRI party voters ---- if they were so Republican in nature, Mexico would look a whole lot different than it does.
