Tom Leykis hurt in late-night Belltown assault The controversy-loving shock jock gets kicked in the head outside the 5 Point Cafe after man says he was insulted on show
By HECTOR CASTRO SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER
An apparently unhappy listener assaulted radio personality Tom Leykis early Monday while the shock jock was in Seattle.
Leykis, whose Los Angeles-based program is heard locally on station KQBZ-FM, could not be reached for comment yesterday. Station management said they would not comment.
Police said they are investigating and have assigned a detective to the case.
"We are taking it very seriously," spokesman Scott Moss said yesterday.
The attack happened about 3:45 a.m. Monday outside the 5 Point Cafe near Belltown, according to a police report on the incident.
Leykis, 48, and a female companion were in the restaurant when he stepped outside alone for some fresh air. A man who was with two friends followed Leykis and snapped a photo, returning back inside and showing the photo to the two men with him.
When Leykis' companion went outside, the three men, all said to be in their 20s, followed. One of them confronted Leykis, saying he had called the radio program and that the radio host had insulted him on the air and questioned his virility.
"You had no right to do that," the man said.
One of his friends, the one who had snapped the photo, then kicked Leykis in the head, knocking him to the ground. Both men then ran off.
The third man apologized to Leykis as he and his companion got into a cab and headed for Leykis' hotel. The hotel called 911 for medical aid.
Leykis suffered a black eye, a cut above his eye that needed 17 stitches to close and scrapes to his knee.
Leykis' shows tend to be raunchy, and he often abuses those who call him. On his Web site, he includes hate e-mail he has received as a result of his program.
He is also known for courting controversy.
In 2001, he created a stir when he named a woman who tried to commit suicide by leaping from the Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle.
Last year, he named the woman accusing Lakers basketball player Kobe Bryant of rape. In both cases, the mainstream media had not named the women.

If the assailant was looking to cause brain damage, he was kicking in the wrong place.
I wondered who it was that got hit in the head. A local host here was talkiing about it, but I missed the name.
He's an ass. I was a guest on his show a dozen years ago when he was on KFI in LA. Totally rude on and off the air.
He also got into trouble in Boston after slamming his wife's head into a fireplace.
Everyone who ever listened to his show could be considered a suspect.
The old Loveline was some of the best radio ever. Poorman was a classic. Ricky Rachtman was pretty good as well.....
It was alot of fun. Alot of Fun!
I didn't even know Leykis was still alive. I just figured if he couldn't hold an audience in Maoist Madison then what hope has he?
