Laura Bush turns it up
San Francisco Examiner ^ | 08-26-2004 | Siobhan McDonough

WASHINGTON- As Laura Bush tells it, she and her husband were pulling into the driveway one night when she turned to him and said the speech he had just given wasn't very good. He drove into the garage wall.

No wonder the future president went a little off course. These were words from an endlessly supportive wife, who had till then heeded advice from mother-in-law Barbara Bush never to criticize her husband's speeches. The family car-or at least the ranch pickup-has been safe ever since.

Sure, she let be known she didn’t care for his “dead or alive” ultimatum to Osama bin Laden. But first and foremost, this first lady is cheerleader to the president, and one who has used a louder megaphone this campaign than in the last to tell people what a great guy she and the country have landed.

In speaking so often of him, she has revealed little of herself.

“Very disciplined,” she calls herself. “I don’t really have to watch everything I say, because I’m pretty well-behaved as it is.”

In measured steps, Laura Bush has put a sharper edge on her campaigning this year. She’s traveling without her husband more often.

Moving beyond the contentious topics of literacy, heart disease and the increasing well-being of Afghan women, she pushed into the debate over stem cell research, in the process taking guarded but unmistakable shots at the opposition.

Laura Bush is the best.

I gotta agree with that, I originally termed her demeanor "gentle patriotism" as she was demure but effective. Now I see her taking the fight to the Rats. She may have been motivated by W's taking our fight to the terrorists, but maybe on her own. The Bush women are corageous and intelligent, and when the heat is on, they stay and fight.

The car accident story is an old story. It's not meant to suggest that the 'dead or alive' speech is the same speech.

You're right - the media shelved this story.
Little wonder why -

Laura Bush participates in the dedication of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in
Cincinnati, Ohio, Monday, Aug. 23, 2004. Pictured with Mrs. Bush are the center's executive director Dr.
Spencer Crew, right, and President Edward Riguad.

Laura rocks!

She can sure tell people to shut up. Come to think of it, so can her husband.

Laura Bush is the best. I really liked her mother-in-law as First Lady, but Laura may be even better. She is pure class and we are well represented by her.

That, plus she is pretty easy on the eyes, unlike the disloyal opposition.

VS.

Could you believe I got the kerry picture from a pro-kerry site ? Looks like she is about to claw somebody ! LOL

It was not the same speech. The drove-into-the-wall speech was when he was running for congress in Texas. Laura was at the white house when she told him she didnt like the dead or alive saying.

I heard her tell the "drive into the wall" story on either Letterman or Leno. It was a ditty on "I think I surprised him and broke his concentration".

She wasn't really being derogatory as a wife. I think it was more of a teacher thing....like my fabulous English Teacher who corrected the grammar of the letters sent to her by her boyfriend and sent them back to him. She did wind up with someone else eventually!!

A debate wont work because "shove it" after each question would not be a very good debate.

He drove into the garage wall.

This must have been when he was Governor of Texas. I don't see The Commander in Chief driving himself or the First Lady anywhere.

From Yahoo, to make up for the lack of coverage: "Laura Bush participates in the dedication of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, Monday, Aug. 23, 2004."

First lady Laura Bush takes a flashlight candle from director and CEO Dr. Spencer Crew (R) and president Edwin Rigaud (L) at the dedication ceremony for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in downtown Cincinnati

She is a true Southern Lady.

And in that regard you better not cross a true Southern Lady.

I think those, along with class and common decency, are family traits. The Democrats tried to make a big deal about President Bush's early business failings and his struggle against alcohol. But what they don't talk about is that Bush conquered and rose above them. He stayed married and, from what I've seen, is a very good role model for being happily married.

Bottom line: GWB married well and was smart enough to know it!

She truly is a class act!!! And I LOVE her sense of humor.

This is why the Rats would never allow a debate, unprecedented as it is. Also it is the reason that Laura does not receive the press coverage that her activities merit.

Each time Laura and Teraaaza appear in the media there is the possibility of comparison by the public, sort of like the comparison a debate would surely generate. The only answer for the liberal biased media is to reduce exposure for Laura and coverup Teraaaza's foul ups, by reducing her exposure as well, if necessary.
