At least one person was killed and six people were injured Thursday following a chemical explosion at a manufacturing plant in Ferris, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. WFAA-TV reports that Ferris Mayor Pro Tem Scott Born said he believes two people were killed. The Ellis County Sheriff's Department shut down access to the area surrounding the plant. Aerial views of the facility showed emergency vehicles surrounding a business identified as C & G Manufacturing. Born said all the workers in the building were evacuated, along with about 1,000 others in a half-mile radius of the facility. Ellis County Commissioner Hallie Joe Robinson said he believes the plant is involved in manufacturing aircraft parts. He also said he spoke briefly with a Ferris city worker who was at the scene shortly after the explosion. "He said he saw two men that were visibly charred," Robinson said. "He didn't know if it was fire or chemical; he did see them land on the sidewalk. He did not know if there were other people inside the building still."

Deaths are being reported, but no updates yet. Chemicals were being mixed at the time, possibly cyanide, so the evacations were warranted...

Update on WFAA site indicates that report of a deaths was wrong, but the two are critically injured.

Thank you! Looks like two critical, 12 injured, and no one quite knows which chemicals were released - but the word "cyanide" did come up...
