Alice Cooper Clarifies Comment About Rock, Politics
POSTED: 12:36 pm EDT August 26, 2004
When Alice Cooper said he thought rock stars who throw concerts to influence politics were treasonous in a recent interview, he didn't mean treason against the United States. Cooper has issued a statement clarifying his recent comments. Cooper said he had clearly said in the interview rock stars doing concerts for presidential candidates were guilty of "treason against rock and roll." He said he didn't mean treason against the president, the government or the U.S. He said people shouldn't vote for a candidate just because a rock star says so, "and that's true whether it's Bruce Springsteen or Alice Cooper."
Cooper added that rock and roll is rebellious and that spirit doesn't mix well with political fund-raisers and electoral campaigning. He said that's all he meant -- nothing more and nothing less.

Alice Cooper was from Michigan? I"m from AZ and my guitar player was in the FIRST Alice Cooper band called the "Earwigs." He was replaced by Bill Spooner, who then left Alice Cooper's band to form "The Tubes," one of my favorite groups.
Yes....that is the way I read it too.
I grew up in Dearborn, just outside Detroit, and I remember when he played at a lot of local pop festivals in the late 60s. I'm pretty sure he was a local boy.
Alice Cooper is from Phoenix.
BTW, loved the ads for "Back to School" (was it OfficeMax?) he was in recently.
We're White Punks on dope,
Mom and dad live in Hollywood,
Hang myself if I get enough rope,
White Punks on dope...
Your mentioning the Tubes takes me back. The Tubes and the Dead Kennedys were my favorite rock groups way back then. Every time I see Lurch, I hear the tune of Holiday in Cambodia.
I played (my band played, that is) with another good rocker from Phoenix, a guy named Page from "Mister Mr."
IIRC, The Earwigs started out in Phoenix sometime in the mid 60s...
Public Animal #9, from "School's Out"
The album, when I bought it in 1973, came in a jacket that opened like an old style school desk, and there was a pair of bikini panties wrapped around the album. What was a 14 year old boy to do with panties?? That was one time when I didn't mind taking out and burning the trash.
Take them off her, toss them into the glove compartment of her car, forget about them, and Concentrate on the things that matter...?
According to Google sources, he was born in Motor City.
When I read the original comments from Cooper earlier in the week, I noticed that he clearly said "treason against rock and roll". Obviously, some illiterate liberal pantload struggled through a sentence or two and found something to holler about before finishing the story.
Hmmmm.... my bad.... I thought he grew up in Cleveland... He's a big Cleveland Indians Fan
Why do I get the feeling you were every father's nightmare?
I'm pretty sure he was living in the Ann Arbor area from the late 60s into the 70s. He was everywhere around Detroit back then, and this was before he really hit the big time.
Oh, I don't know... it's probably because I was...
That should remind you of Kerry...
That makes sense. I understood what he meant the first time.
I knew exactly what he meant as well. Thought it was pretty plain.
