An anarchist planning to disrupt the GOP convention in New York City next week has a rap sheet chock full of terrorist bombings, which catapulted him to the top of the FBI's Most Wanted List during the late 1970s.
Richard Picariello, now 55, "has been talking to groups ... recruiting others into extreme measures," a high-ranking police source tells the New York Daily News.
In 1977 and 1978, Picariello was convicted for bombing an airplane at Boston's Logan Airport, as well as a Dorchester, Mass. armory and a Newburyport courthouse. His rap sheet also features a conviction for interstate transportation of explosives.
A member of the radical underground Fred Hampton Unit who was on the FBI Most Wanted List, Picariello briefly fled to Canada. When the would-be GOP convention disrupter returned, he bombed a power plant in Maine and robbed a bank before he was apprehended. He has spent nearly half of his life, 25 years, in prison.
More recently, Picariello has been active with the anti-war group ANSWER, which has been involved in various anti-Bush protests around the nation.
The notorious Boston bomber is just one of the potential domestic terrorists that the FBI and NYPD have to worry about when Republicans gather in New York next week.
Fifty of the country's leading anarchists are expected to attend and a handful of them are hard-core extremists with histories of violent and disruptive tactics, police intelligence sources tell the News.
Each of the 50 potential terrorists reportedly has a small army of up to 50 followers who are willing to be arrested during disturbances at the convention.
The GOP convention protest anarchist all-star-list includes:
Kazi Toure, a Black Panther from Boston who was convicted in the 1980s of conspiracy to overthrow the government. His rap sheet includes arrests for bank robbery and transporting firearms. Toure was recently observed training younger militants in weapons use.
An unnamed 20-year-old New Yorker who plans to shut down the Brooklyn Bridge. Tactics urged by the unidentified terrorist include hurling Molotov cocktails through the windows of military recruiting stations.
Jaggi Singh, 32, a Canadian citizen, who is notorious for allegedly setting off hoax devices to detour police resources. He allegedly catapulted teddy bears soaked with gasoline at police at the Quebec G-20 protest in 2001, the News said.
Last week New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg invited "anarchists" to take advantage of discounts being offered to anti-GOP protesters on plays, restaurants and Broadway shows, as long as they agree to remain peaceful.
Raising the all too frequent question, why was he ever released?
Interesting that two of those terrorists, Picariello and Toure, are from Massachusetts. What does Kerry know and how long has he known about it?
Nice to know that Kerry is supported by criminals. These people weren't protesting during the Dem Convention so they must be Kerry supporters.
Or shot resisting arrest?
These people weren't protesting during the Dem Convention
Well they weren't getting the discounted tickets to shop and go to shows that mayor Bloomberg is offering. What the hell is that all about?
Someone should list these individuals as Kerry activists in the Democrat Party. More accurate term.
I don't think they have addresses. They just wander from protest to protest and crash at the homes of naive supporters who usually have no idea about their violent histories.
"Last week New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg invited "anarchists" to take advantage of discounts being offered to anti-GOP protesters on plays, restaurants and Broadway shows, as long as they agree to remain peaceful."
This is a slap in the face to New Yorkers. I can not believe our Mayor is appeasing these idiots with discounts meanwhile the people who live here and pay taxes are supposed to shut up and take it....unbelievable.
25 years for 4 bombings and a bank robbery???
LOVE the IRAQI WAR ROOM this communications company has started! LOL 'The place where journalists can meet and learn the latest talking points to help demolish American resolve for this war' (paraphrased).
Also interesting to read the client list of this company-Moveon.org is ALL over the place! Not to mention a former GLADD leader has a responsible position on one of the teams...the bios of the folks in the company reads like a liberal horror show.
25 years is a lifetime in New England. I hope there are cross-hairs on these SOB's while they enjoy their visit to NYC

International Solidarity Movement Press Release - January 9, 2003
by Huwaida Arraf [huwaidaa@yahoo.com]
[Jerusalem, Jan 9, 2003] - On January 8, 2003, at 6 PM, Jaggi Singh, Canadian citizen and ISM activist, went to visit a friend in West Jerusalem. When he arrived at the doorstep, he was ambushed, forced into an unmarked vehicle, and taken to the Russian Compound in Jerusalem by three plainclothes Israeli secret service agents.
Jaggi Singh was beaten by the Israelis as they were transporting him to the Russian Compound. An officer by the name of Aaron slapped his face several times and pulled his hair in an attempt to interrogate him. Jaggi Singh's lawyer, Shamai Leibovitch, was not allowed to talk with or visit him at Russian Compound. On January 9, 2003, Jaggi Singh was transferred to Maasiyahu Prison in Ramle.
Jaggi was to be deported to Canada for visa violations. The Canadian Consulate visited him in prison and provided laisse passé documents for his return to Canada. Jaggi is now at Ben Gurion airport waiting for his 12:40 AM flight to Canada.
Jaggi arrived at Ben Gurion Airport on December 14th and was initially refused entry by Israeli officials for `security reasons'. His attorney took his case to court and Jaggi was eventually given a one week visa with the condition that he not enter the occupied territories.
Jaggi is from Montreal, Canada and traveled to the occupied territories to write about the realities of the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Jaggi is well known in Canada and abroad for speaking out against injustice in the many forms it takes.
