MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Russian emergency workers are continuing to sift through twisted metal for clues about why two airliners crashed within minutes of each other, killing all 89 people aboard.
Officials said one of the jets had sent a hijack distress signal after taking off from Moscow's Domodedovo Airport on Tuesday night, raising fears terrorists had struck.
A spokesman for the Federal Security Service said Wednesday that while a preliminary investigation of the crash sites had not revealed evidence of a terrorist act, terrorism was still on the table as a possible cause.
Russian officials have rushed the flight data recorders from the two airliners back to Moscow, where they will be decoded for clues to explain the crashes.
Investigators found the two crash sites, about 725 kilometers (450 miles) apart, by dawn, but no survivors among the 89 passengers and crew who had been aboard.

I believe the fix is in on this one. Another TWA 800 gov't lie. Oh well, let's move on.
The DNC talking points: Two plane crashes and a bombing within minutes of one another; there is no connection because we say so. These are just random events in Russia. Keep that wool over your eyes and move on.
I expect little if any news that isn't thoroughly vetted, edited and sanitized along party lines. No surprise there.
What is surprising is that no one has blamed the US for the crashes. Remember the Kursk? It was our fault for months. Guess they haven't come up with a (halfway) plausible scenario for American involvement (yet).
I hate to give the kooks ideas, but here is one - the CIA & the Mossad set up the crashes, to make it look like terrorist attacks, in order to trick Russia into a world wide war against terrorism. Insert Illuminati/cultist/Freemasons/Space Aliens/ect for some variety.
I'm awaiting the report of the pilot who brought suit against the NTSB about TWA 800. He was specifically knocking down the Richard Clarke scenario that the plane continued to rise after the explosion.
That suit was supposed to go to trial this summer. Anyone hear anything?
I thought the black box from flight 93 was recovered (Pa.). How else did we get the conversation among the hijackers as the passengers stormed the cockpit?
Even if terrorism was involved, don't expect any confirmation before the Presidential election in Chechnya this weekend. Russia is doing the right thing. Remember what occurred in Spain this past spring.
