If I was Bush I would have been standing out there waiting for them to deliver it and then smile and invite them in for coffee. Why you say? Just to tick the Kerry campaign off.

I don't agree. Nobody just shows up at the Presidents doorstep and demand service. Totally disrespectful.

I would have too ... but I wonder if he was in the ranch to accept it?

Probably not, no?

And Kerry and friends probably knew that as well.

My thoughta exactly!!!!!! By not greeting them and inviting them in for a chat they managed to give them a forum to spew their false accusations.. I would have given them a warm "photo-op" welcome..... The old flies to honey routine...

I would have had Bob Dole waiting to accept the letter.

Max, I am sorry you did something stupid in Nam and blew yourself up, but here at my house it is common courtesy to call first and ask if it is convenient before you visit, whether you are a Vietnam veteran or not. You obviously weren't just passing by the neighborhood, were you? So enjoy your little photo opportunity in the hot Texas sun and go away.

No, Bush did the right thing. These traitors don't deserve respect.

I actually expected him to do something like that. Bush has a knack for killing 'em with kindness. He then could have come out and said, "We had a great conversation. As I've said many times, I believe Sen. Kerry served with distinction and I again call on him in joining me to put a stop to all 527 ads."

Good point. It was a big missed opportunity. Laura could have even served lemonade.

In my view, President Bush has already proven to be more than courteous to his opponents in every conceivable way. I cannot imagine any reason for him to accomodate those who wish only to slander him and derail his station via any method.

If Kerry wins (which is unlikely) this election in November, I for one will consider heading for the hills. The USA as we have known it will be so over forever.

The Liberals are without redeeming qualities, and they represent the complete destruction of this Nation as it was originally instituted. Then and also as it was at the time when the World needed us to set things right. That the USA has done on more than one occasion, and continues to do until this day!

The liberals are nothing more than a human version of an Insect Colony where mindlessness and subordination to a Queen is all that is relevant. The liberals are de-evolutionists, and they would have us all become as irrelevant as an insect colony.

Humans, have been directed by God (in Genesis) to take dominion over such things. Humans were created in order to be above the animals. The Liberals would have us cease in that endeavor, and indeed they would have us to be nothing more than drones in the greater collective hive. It is so contrary to what God has admonished us to be.

Sadly, you are not in charge there because that would have been a perfect way for the Pres. to disarm (sorry for the pun) these two Kerry supporters and show courtesy to two decorated vets and ex-Senator.

So why was it not done in such a way?

My guts tell me that the Bush campaign has no intention of removing the ace he thinks he has on this Swift Boat issue and thus could not be seen to accept the letter.

Ditto. Bush mishandled this; now we'll be seeing pics and stories of the mean Bush turning away a guy in a wheelchair. No one in the media will comment on the crass manipulation by Kerry of Cleland's handicap.

I am surprized that SOMEONE wasn't out there to greet them & give them a glass of ice tea. It wasn't showing Texas hospitality to send them away on a hot day after a long drive. Shame shame.
