PETA CLAWS OUT FOR CINDY
NY Post ^ | August 25, 2004 | Dick Johnson

PEOPLE for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has declared war on former comrade Cindy Crawford over her decision to model fur. As we reported last week, Crawford, who appeared in a PETA ad in the early '90s, recently signed on as the new face of Blackglama's "What Becomes a Legend Most" campaign. "Perhaps they should change the slogan to, 'What Becomes a Has-Been Most?' " PETA's Dan Mathews snarled to PAGE SIX's Jared Paul Stern. "Cindy has become a laughingstock." Tomorrow night, PETA plans a protest outside her husband Rande Gerber's Whiskey Bar in Los Angeles. PETA plans to screen a clip of animals being tortured at a fur farm and brandish posters of Crawford's PETA ad with "Sellout" pasted across it. Similar demonstrations are planned for Gerber bars in New York, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas and New Orleans. Crawford's rep, Annett Wolf, fumed: "This is so unfair. She's not pretending to be anything she isn't. It's so outrageous . . . Cindy was never a PETA spokesperson nor has she taken a stand against fur. She was never in a PETA campaign. All she did was one photo as a favor to Todd Oldham."

Meet Jerry Vlasak and his "wife" Pamelyn Ferdin, both have close connections to PETA's quasi-medical front group, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM).

In a stunning comment, Vlasak predicted a particularly violent future for PETA:

" It won't ruin our movement if someone gets killed in an animal rights action. It's going to happen sooner or later. The Animal Liberation Front, the Earth Liberation Front -- sooner or later there's going to be someone getting hurt. And we have to accept that fact. It's going to happen. "

PETA vs. Cindy Crawford -- there are some intellectual heavyweights going at it. Talk about gravitas!!

In fairness, Cindy WAS the valedictorian of her high school.

____

Should teach her then not to do favors when she doesn't believe in what she is doing. Makes you wonder what Oldham had on her that she was willing to sell herself out BACK THEN and make an ad she didn't agree with at the time.

You won't hear that from me, although I think many in Hollywood are too skinny. Cindy always seemed to have a reasonable weight on her. I still think it is unhealthy for girls to think they can aspire to be her though since not all of us are blessed with the height that helps elongate everything. A girl whose weight is the equivalent to hers for her size will not look like her if she is only 5'4". That is just a reality. Us girls in that average height range--5'4" have much shorter legs that don't and won't ever look like Cindy's. But, that is up to mothers of young women to set those realistic expectations for them and not encourage them to be something they are not. All that said, I've always thought she was a very pretty woman and like I said, one who doesn't look emaciated, but healthy.

Threads like this almost make me crave barbecued spotted owl with snail darter sauce.

Mmmm, orange sauce would be better. I'm in the process of developing a recipe for soft shell desert tortoises. Any ideas?

We had one of those whacko naked Peta chicks on a downtown streetcorner during the circus.. everyone in the courthouse had to run down and take a gander..

personally I like fur ..if God hadn't intended us to wear fur he wouldn't have made it so soft and warm!

Wonbder why PETA's never gone after Hilliary. Hillie owns fur.

That's not fur. That's chronic back hair.

Assuming neither you nor the website considered Marilyn Monroe to be a supermodel.
