The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

High alert after Russia jet crash

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the state security services, the FSB, to probe a plane crash, and another missing plane.

One plane with 42 people on board went down in the Tula region south of the capital, Moscow.

Meanwhile, air controllers say they lost contact with a second plane with 44 passengers on board, near the southern city of Rostov-on-Don.

9:35 p.m.

* Tu-154 jet, carrying 46 passengers, takes off from Moscow's Domodedovo airport for the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

10:15 p.m.

* Tu-134 jet, carrying 43 passengers, takes off from Moscow's Domodedovo airport for the southern Russian city of Volgograd.

10:55 p.m.

* Tu-154 jet activates a distress signal indicating the plane might have been hijacked.

10:56 p.m.

* Tu-134 jet disappears from radar screens and crashes.

10:59 p.m.

* Tu-154 crashes in Rostov region.

Wednesday

3:00 a.m.

* Rescuers find the wreckage of Tu-134 jet in the Tula region, about 125 miles south of Moscow.

* Rescuers discover wreckage of Tu-154 jet in the Rostov region some 600 miles south of Moscow.

The hijack signal looks to have been activated when the plane would have been on approach to Rostov, 80 minutes into the flight. Sochi, where Putin is (now was?) vacationing, is another 250 miles due south of Rostov. And both planes appear to have been taken over at precisely the same time, around 10:50.

Wonder if they'll be able to ID the bodies? I think the fact that they're finding separate and apparently intact bodies is further indication of explosion in mid-air, as opposed to someone nosing the planes into the ground and leaving nothing but puverized body parts, as in Flight 93.

We do see, O God, nations rising up against nations, and we do see and hear the false prophets who would lead the people astray, and we do see their successes, O God. Yet we take heart, for we know that Your Word will be preached to all of mankind, for You are not willing that any should perish.

Keep us faithful to the task of upholding our beloved defenders before the Throne of Grace ... those defenders of the faith and defenders of freedom and liberty.
