CHICAGO, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- The Chicago Sun-Times criticized the rival Chicago Tribune Tuesday, questioning the timing of an editor's recall of fighting with Sen. John Kerry in Vietnam.
On Sunday, Tribune editor William Rood wrote a first-person account of his memories of serving in a Navy Swift Boat, as the Democrat presidential candidate did.
Kerry received two purple hearts and a bronze star for bravery, which has come under dispute by one Republican-leaning veteran's group.
In a Sun-Times editorial Tuesday, the newspaper called into question Rood's motives as he "said nothing and did nothing until the campaign came looking for him and asked for his support."
Rood has refused to answer reporters' questions about his own military service, drawing more fire from the Sun-Times.
"That makes one wonder. As does Rood's telling the story only once, for his newspaper, and then refusing to answer the legitimate questions about his account.
"He gave (the story) to his newspaper; he should now be willing to answer questions about his story and about how he came to tell it. Doing otherwise casts doubt on the value of his testimony."
Rood is VERY rude, and a butt-boy for Hanoi John!
That's a rational first response. But, if you take the time to research the details, Rood's story is devastating against Kerry, and fully supporting of the important points and recollections that the Swiftees are making. The Swiftees have said that the age, clothing, condition and armament of the single VC is unimportant, in that no matter what, those details would not change the belief and explanation of why Kerry's Silver Star was improvidently granted, on a fabricated story prepared by John Kerry.
Bias..what bias..
The funny part is, the Tribune will endorse Bush while the Suntimes will endorse Kerry.
Tonk..FYI..worth pinging the group..regards..
Two words: pay off.
Comments?
The SlumTimes endorsed Bush in 2000.
Are you sure?
I thought they endorsed Algore?
Last election they both endorsed Bush. It was very strange.
I think he's a sports editor. Kerry calls him, leans on him. ROod doesn't like it, and writes a story where an initial spin can be positive to Kerry. But, the story has a deadly booby-trap for Kerry, laid in the middle of it. Rood knows it takes time for the media to get to the point, and the minor discrepancy is "bait" for the Kerry synchophants.
You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, after studying his article in light of the Swiftee allegations.
What is going to be funny is when one of the vets on Kerry's boat comes forward and tells the truth about what Kerry has said and promised them. When they see his campaign coming apart, one of them will.
TWO Purple Hearts? Weren't there THREE originally? Did he misplace one?
Right. All of these veterans' groups are more like Kerry repulsed. Or Kerry REVULSED Kerry's Party worshipped Stalin and Mao and tried to bring abbut their little Revolution in this country back in the '70's. Now they're in positions of power and influence.
Consider us counter-revolutionaries. Insurgents. Former military militants. Did I miss any? Oh yeah, deactivists. Good terms all, and far more catchy and accurate than "Republican leaning", which sounds paranoid schizophrenic.
Well I'll be damned, I guess they did.
Sun Times will still probably endorse Kerry this time around.
Two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star are the most dubious.
'Presidential hopeful John Kerry has based his campaign bid for the US Presidency on his Vietnam war-hero status and his three Purple Hearts.'
Suddenly the newspapers drop off the questionable purple heart - and all of Kerry's lies just drop right off with it? Without even an explanation? That's just blinking amazing.
Good catch <G>
