Kerry's Cambodia Whopper
Washington Post ^ | 8/24/04 | Joshua Muravchik

Posted on 08/23/2004 10:09:52 PM PDT by kattracks

[snip]

Now a new official statement from the campaign undercuts Brinkley. It offers a minimal (thus harder to impeach) claim: that Kerry "on one occasion crossed into Cambodia," on an unspecified date. But at least two of the shipmates who are supporting Kerry's campaign (and one who is not) deny their boat ever crossed the border, and their testimony on this score is corroborated by Kerry's own journal, kept while on duty.

[snip]

But Kerry has repeated his Cambodia tale throughout his adult life. He has claimed that the epiphany he had that Christmas of 1968 was about truthfulness. "One of the things that most struck me about Vietnam was how people were lied to," he explained in a subsequent interview. If -- as seems almost surely the case -- Kerry himself has lied about what he did in Vietnam, and has done so not merely to spice his biography but to influence national policy, then he is surely not the kind of man we want as our president.

Well, it's an easy mistake for Kerry to make. After all the memory was ONLY SEARED into his brain. It's not like those other memories that were SEWN into his brain.

Whatever ends up being proven or not proven out of this mess, one thing is certain. John Kerry is a self-promoting coward who deserted his post the minute he got the opportunity (three Purple Hearts for bloodless injuries and an early out) who then betrayed his country and the Americans still fighting in Vietnam through his aid and comfort offered to the enemy. The men who were there recognize this and are disgusted by it. All Vietnam veterans along with all other Americans can see what Kerry did after he got home and most patriots are disgusted with his lies and betrayals. Bottom line, Kerry is a liar and sell-out who cannot be trusted with national security. Kerry loses.

It's an op-ed, not a news article.

The Washington Post's coverage, since they've started covering the Swift Boat Vets story, has been relatively even-handed, compared to the New York Slimes. The New York Pravda for Liberals has barely mentioned the Christmas in Cambodia story, and I don't think the Slimes has even printed an op-ed on the subject. It truly has become just a mouthpiece for the DNC.

You left out the best paragraph of the article.

He lied again. Its hard to keep track of Kerry's lies. No wait, he'll adjust the record again. Never mind.

The WaPo sometimes can be balanced when and if it wants to. While I would have added a few more comments to that Sunday piece they did with the graphic of the ambush it was by far the best piece by a major outlet. The NYTs is so ideology driven they will go down with Kerry. I find the WaPo is more pragmatic at times. They waited to report on this, and I think they know which way it's going to go so they are hedging their editorial bets. They are smarter than the NYts in that way.

He used it as an example of "Nixon's" war crimes and South Vietnamese Army's war crimes. Then he used it to argue against fighting against the Sandanistas in Nicaragua. This was as disgusting a lie as he has ever told and should resign over it.

Muravchik is a good guy - a resident at AEI. I'm surprised this made the Post.

And we're off!!!!!!!!!!

With the Post printing such a damning article, other major papers will soon start to repeat the tone of this piece which is just devastating in its conclusion. More of Kerry's falsehoods will be investigated by MSM investigators and then, in an attempt to detect a pattern, someome will dovetail his entire public life into a neat box of lies, embellishment and grandstanding.

Oh, it's going to be so much fun to watch. Wouldn't it be terrific if somewhere in a Bush second term, the president would announce he was awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to all 254 SwiftVets for service to their country?
Wouldn't that make the Rats howl?

This is not an article; it's an op-ed piece by Joshua Muravchik of the American Enterprise Institute. But at least it's one more op-ed than the New York Slimes has printed.
