The Word in Republican Circles....
The Kerry Spot ^ | August 23, 2004 | jim geraghty

THE WORD IN REPUBLICAN CIRCLES [08/23 02:41 PM] Just chatted with a high-ranking Republican tuned in to the Bush campaign. A couple of highlights: * The idea that the Swift Boat Vets ads’ could boomerang on Bush is wishful thinking. Smart Democrats understand there’s nothing good about this for John Kerry. * The Bush campaign isn’t worried that the Swift Boat Vets’ message will step on President Bush’s message during the convention. * Despite Josh Marshall’s charges, Bob Dole wasn’t “sent out” by the Bush campaign. The campaign offered to brief him on some issues, and he turned it down. “Bob Dole doesn’t let anybody tell Bob Dole what to do,” the high-ranking Republican said, using the exact third-person style that Dole himself would use. * The Republican also wasn’t impressed with Kerry’s efforts to urge television stations not to run the Swift Boats’ ad, wondering how loud the cries of outrage would have been if the Bush campaign had tried to prevent “Fahrenheit 9/11” from running in theaters.

you are doing the right thing. listen to those news sources, it prevents the echo chamber effect many people here have with this board and talk radio all day. the average american spends 12 minutes per day getting their news, the newsbreaks on top 40 radio stations, the top of the hour stuff when they are getting traffic and weather reports, the intro splash screen on AOL, etc.

I think you hit the nail on its head! Hatred is moving the SwiftVets. It is also moving my hatred for the "hippies" of the 60's. I am ready to pray for vengence against those "long haired, maggot invested, dope smoking" scum! This my be just the time!

I heard that too! I just shook my head in amazement.

Let's compare Bush's war record to Kerry's: Bush flies planes in the states, Kerry goes to Nam for four months. Both served but in different capacities. Bush gets an honorable discharge and 30 years later, goes on to become CinC and wins two wars in 2 years with historically minimal causlties. One war is in Afghanistan which kicked USSR bootie and the tsecond, Iraq.
Kerry returns from Nam as a protester, slanders his band of brothers as war criminals, fights for the communists/socialists for 30 years while maintaining an abyssmal senate voting record and then morphs into war hero to run for the President while disavowing most of the aforementioned.

Gee, I just can't decide who I'm going to vote for....

You,sir, have hit the nail on the head.

Your post should be required reading by every Freeper.

You have outlined the situation concisely and effectively.

Kerry is a three act play:

First Act: Service in Vietnam

Second Act: What he did when he came back from the war(1970-1972)

Third Act: His anti-military, anti-intelligence, pro communist and pro-death 19 year record as a US Senate.

Any RNC types out there: Pay attention. Steelwolf just outlined your strategy for free.

If people see the second ad, it will affect them regardless of whether the media talks about it. I just hope the media is forced to talk about it so it's impact will be even larger.

Watched Joe Scarborough tonight, he discussed this the whole hour., He kept asking why we were so focused on Vietnam, Joe gave me the impression he felt sorry for Kerry. I could be wrong just did not sound right...Dennis Prager was there for a couple minutes, he summed it up perfect, Kerry is focused on Vietnam, Kerry said "reporting for duty" at his convention,, the whole speech was about Vietnam....
One of the democrat spokes mouth said wait until tomorrow, Kerry is going to come out with a hard hitting against Bush....

trashing all those veterans as "genghis khan" types.

Nope, he trashed them as Jenjus Khan!

With that phony, pretentious lockjaw/accent and his overall pomposity, he must have been one hell of an insufferable prick. Probably still is.

If Kerry is being hurt by this - how come all the polls show him comfortably winning? I don't see a hit in the polls. Would have expected a drastic drop.

Last night Susan Estrich said the same statement - "I think this could backfire on Bush".

I buy this.

That's why the Kerryistas are whispering that they want to keep the Swifty issue alive--what a freakin joke. They are saying that in a vain hope to get the Swifties to stop telling the truth on him.

I think the Bush campaign is sitting back and watching as Kerry is on the defense over the Swift Boat Ads and when the debates come, Bush will attack him over his Senate voting record.

Not much is ever said about Kerry's attacks on social security or his voting 20 plus times to keep the marriage penalty tax. This stuff will blindside him because he is so focused in on the SwiftBoat stuff.

People are now going to feel SORRY for Kerry? What was your overall impression of the show: good for Kerry, bad for Kerry or sympathy for Kerry?

Oliphant tonight was indicating Kerry wants this fight. Said he always reacts this way - when attacked, he turns the boat around and heads into the fight. Typical Kerry.

They are claiming this is all to Kerry's advantage.

"...how come all the polls show him comfortably winning? I don't see a hit in the polls. Would have expected a drastic drop."

There's a lot of polls out there, I'm not sure that any show Kerry comfortably winning. I haven't looked at any electoral college polls, so if that's what you're talking about you may be right. All the ones I've seen show him ahead by maybe 5 points at the most, and that's well within the margin of error.

His poll ratings with Vets have taken a big hit, so that first ad had an effect.

I personally think all these polls are a lot of hooey. I can't think people dislike Bush enough to fire him; and I can't beleive they are willing to hire a big phoney baloney like Kerry.

Time will tell. We better keep our fingers crossed and get ready to get out the vote. Because this nation is going to be in deep doo-doo if we elect Kerry pres. It's going to be Carter II, in spades.
