Don't know how many Vietnamese, but more than 14,000 of our young men died AFTER J F'in Kerry's testimony to the Senate. Their blood is on his hands.

I believe the number of people murdered in Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Loas is approx. 1,800,000.........not counting the camps where the professionals were put to farming, etc. Untold numbers perished in the waters......boat people.

From the Swift Boat Vets book:

3.5 million people estimated to have died in communist purges at end of Vietnam war.

including 2.5 million in the killing fields of Cambodia

Laos has had whole people's eliminated

1.4 million refugees who made it to the US

and 10s of thousands of boat people perished in the seas trying to escape

p.18

I don't know how many were murdered,,,but some Vietnamese friends of mine were sent to 're-education' camp for a long time after the fall of Saigon....... Don't forget to count those families that were
'arrested'...

You might want to include that in the Q & A exchange the follwed his prepared statement to the Fulbright Committee, Kerry was asked what would happen in S. Vietnam if America withdrew.

Kerry answered that perhaps 2,000 or 3,000 people might have to be relocated for fear of assassination or what the N. Vietnamese might do to them.

Even the Senator that asked the question remarked that he thought Kerry's estimate was low "because we had to help 800,000 find sanctuary from N. Vietnam after the French lost at Dien Bien Phu." (reference Unfit For Command page 120-121)

As Libertina posted to you the actual lives lost from the Communist purge, the re-education camps and the mass of refugees, including the ones who tried to flee via the sea and either drown or were raped and murdered by pirates, numbered into the millions.

Kerry has never acknowleged his woefully inaccurate, uninformed estimation. And here's one last example which clearly demonstrates Kerry's inherent elitist snobbishness from Unfit For Command page 121: **If John Kerry and his anti-war associates were correct, if the Vietnamese comprehended no fundamental difference between freedom and Communism, why did so many risk death?**

Damn good question. A lot like why, if the looney lefties think America is so evil and horrible, don't they move and live someplace else? Like Venezuela, perhaps. Or Sudan.

Two million Cambodians were slaughtered, and then there were the boat people from Cambodia. I don't know exact numbers of South Vietnamese murdered after the war ended, but surely that number is out there.

I cannot help you right now, but the number is not tremedously high -- nothing like in Cambodia. Thousands were "re-educated", including a guy that I know who was "re-educated" for a long time, with permanent health and mental consequences. I met him in VN in 1992 and again in '94, and he eventually came to the US in about 1995.

The "re-education" camps were no picnic, and no doubt many died. However, I do not believe there was any wholesale slaughter a la Mao, Hitler, Stalin or Pol Pot. I have seen some conservative commentators allude to a bloodbath in Vietnam after the communist victory in 1975, but I think they are incorrect.
