QUOTE:

I would wager more for the book-burning ideologue callers from the Democratic Party who don't want them to carry this book.

I wouldn't bet against you. They are all for "free speech" when it applies to their vile pornographic rants, but let a conservative defend himself and he is a lying fascist.

The Swiftvets are trying to keep Kerry from being elected, but they are also, and I dare say more importantly, defending their reputations from Kerry's "free speech" remarks maligning them as "baby killers" and "war criminals". They are simply defending their honor, but I guess that makes them partisan Nazis and should be allowed.

There are other political books this year -- and at the Barnes and Noble store in downtown Pittsburgh, on the table near the cash registers displaying political books, I counted 23 strongly anti-Bush titles, 4 pro-Bush titles, and 5 neutal titles.

I called my local Barnes & Noble (as well as every other bookstore in town) on Tuesday, and no one had any copies available here in Portland, Oregon. I asked the store to call me as soon as they had copies available and they added me to their list. They called me today to tell me they had a copy on hold for me. According to the clerk they received three copies (I was #3) and that they have a waiting list of over 1500.

Of note, not one of the stores I called offered to put me on a waiting list as they have always done in the past. I had to request this at every store I called. One clerk at a Borders store told me the publisher had recalled all copies of the book because it was "riddled with lies and incorrect information and had to be rewritten to correct all the errors, so she had no idea if and when they would even be taking orders for the book". Needless to say Border's main offices got a complaint call from me on that one with a complete explaination of the incident.

I'll be reading the book tonight, so I can start passing it around to all those I know who need to read it.

Go Swift Vets!!!!!!!!

How many books did Regnery print? How many have they shipped to whom?

If the books have been shipped to a specific reseller, then that reseller should have them available for purchase. If they do not make them available then the publisher should take action.

Got my book through AMazon, but when in Lafayette none of the book stores had it in stock. At the Borders their was a nice sign saying their #1 best seller was currently out of stock with a picture of the books jacket. They would be happy to add names to their request list.

I went over to talk to clerk and a very rude Rat made a nasty comment about how the republican were smearing sKerry....Very calmly told her she needed to get her facts straight that O'Neill was a democrat and while she was in the store she might want to pick up Zell Miller's book or DIck Morris's books since they were also democrats. SHe left in a huff!

Later the clerk told me their list was so long that they had placed the third order just to have enough books to have a few for the shelf. Couldn't keep it in stock!

Publisher just didn't see it coming

This is what my local B&N is telling me every time I call. However, IIRC, this book was #1 at Amazon for several WEEKS in June & July. How could they possibly see the pre-sales at Amazon were outselling EVERY OTHER BOOK and not realize they had a bestseller on their hands? Does it really take six to eight weeks to line up a printer?

At www.vvaw.org, search on "John Kerry". Nothing yet against him. They say since they're a tax-deductible organization, they can't support a candidate. They are for "Anybody But Bush."

A 501c3 (I don't know the status of vvaw) cannot endorse or oppose a candidate, a party, or a piece of pending legislation. That crosses over into advocacy.

"VOTE ANYBODY BUT BUSH" is just as illegal for 501c3s as "VOTE JOHN KERRY". They violate it all the time but they can lose their tax-free status over it. Notify the IRS when you find violations (this includes leftwing radio like NPR and Pacifica).

They CAN discuss a pending piece of legislation if the moderator appears neutral and a credible effort is made to bring in people from both sides of the issue/parties to discuss the topic (then it is like a "debate").

Try to get ahold of ANY evidence that the books are being stonewalled. Memos, advisories, employee chit chat, managers notices, whatever. It might be good to quit a few weeks after getting the goods on them, and then posting the specifics here on FR along with evidence.

I heard a story from a B&N employee who had to deal with an irate woman who insisted that the store was not really sold out of the book, but was actually hoarding copies from the public. The store manager went so far as to call the publisher of the book and put them on the line with her so that they could personally explain that demand had exceeded supply.

She still refused to believe that there was no consipracy.

Sounds to me like the clerk was utterly frazzled as a result of the high numbers of irate people insisting that the store's lack of stock is some vast liberal conspiracy of which the individual sales clerk is a direct and willing participant -- a situation that would drive anyone crazy, regardless of their political affiliation -- and he was trying to offer a little humour in order to avoid going completely insane. Yes, it was a trite comment, but I think that it speaks more of his frustration regarding the situation of the demand for the book and the reaction of a number of unpleasant people who have demanded it than it does of his political preferences.

Well, there is the fact that the book was released about a month or so ahead of schedule.

It started showing up on the number 1 list on Amazon in late July if I disremember correctly.

The printers were booked up with printing all of the Bush bashing books.

It's not an easy thing to print a half a million books and get them to the distributor in a matter of weeks. A publisher like Random House or Simon and Schuster might pull it off.

I was in Borders (Bowie, MD) last week buying some books for my grandson. They did not have the book and I stated that it is somewhat convienent that every conservative book that comes out, I cannot find in thier stores. I purchased it a few days later at Sams along with AMERICAN SOLDIER. The day I purchased it at Sams, I stopped at the B&N in Parole, Md., near Annapolis, to pick up another book for my grandson. Lo and behold, they had it!
