Presidential candidate John Kerry telephoned former Sen. Bob Dole Monday morning to complain about Dole's demand a day earlier that he apologize to Vietnam veterans for protesting the war, the one-time Republican presidential candidate revealed Monday afternoon."John Kerry called me this morning, which surprised me," Dole told radio host Sean Hannity. "He said he was very disappointed, we'd been friends. I said John, we're still friends, but [the Swiftvets] have first amendment rights, just as your people have first amendment rights.
Dole told Kerry, "I'm not trying to stir anything up, but I don't believe everyone of these people who have talked about what happened are Republican liars.
"And very frankly, Bush is my guy, and I'm tired of people on your side calling him everything from a coward to a traitor to everything - a deserter."
Dole said he urged Kerry, "Why don't you call George Bush today and say, 'Mr. President, let's stop all this stuff about the National Guard and Vietnam - and let's talk about the issues."
Dole said Kerry responded, "I haven't spent one dime attacking President Bush."
But the Republican war hero shot back, "You don't have to. You've got all the so-called mainstream media, plus you've got MoveOn.org. and all these other groups that have spent millions and millions of dollars trying to tarnish Bush's image."
"Don't tell me you don't know what some of these people are doing," he told Kerry.
"Everybody like quiet heroes," Dole added, saying he told Kerry, "John, everybody knows you were in Vietnam and the less you say about it, the better."
Dole said he tried to end the tense conversation cordially by telling Kerry, "I wish you good luck, up to a point."
I almost sprayed Diet Coke all over my monitor! LOL!
"Bob Dole doesn't take any guff off botoxed metrosexuals with $5,000 haircuts! So don't mess with Bob Dole!"

Will it never end?
---When, O Catiline, do you mean to cease abusing our patience? How long is that madness of yours still to mock us? When is there to be an end of that unbridled audacity of yours, swaggering about as it does now? Do not the nightly guards placed on the Palatine Hill--do not the watches posted throughout the city--does not the alarm of the people, and the union of all good men--does not the precaution taken of assembling the senate in thus most defensible place--do not the looks and countenances of this venerable body here present, have any effect upon you? Do you not feel that your plans are detected? Do you not see that your conspiracy is already arrested and rendered powerless by the knowledge which every one here possesses of it? What is there that you did last night, what the night before-- where is it that you were--who was there that you summoned to meet you--what design was there which was adopted by you, with which you think that any one of us is unacquainted?---
Cicero, 1st Oration Against Catiline
BWAHAHAHA!
Me too. I mean, I don't want him hit by a truck, or anything.
This shouldn't surprise anyone. Bob Dole has never lacked backbone.
Kerry tried to tell Dole that it was all Bush's fault and that Bush had started it.
Dole said no, if I recall it was McAuliffe, etc.
"Everbody likes a quiet hero". Bob Dole said it all.
in other words:
STFU... in a kinder, gentler tone, of course.
LOL! Yeah, it must also cause you to grow big, brass ones!
It's true .. I heard Dole on the show
BRAVO BOB!!!
"Greatest generation" to "impudent snob" bump!
Go Bob, go
I think he did too. I cannot imagine that Kerry was ever at the top of Dole's friends in the Senate either!
Anything but answer the questions. Worked for Clinton, but this time we know how the game is played.
Spot on. Iow, no one likes a blowhard.
GREAT line!!
When, O Catiline, do you mean to cease abusing our patience?...O tempora! O mores!
