Presidential candidate John Kerry telephoned former Sen. Bob Dole Monday morning to complain about Dole's demand a day earlier that he apologize to Vietnam veterans for protesting the war, the one-time Republican presidential candidate revealed Monday afternoon."John Kerry called me this morning, which surprised me," Dole told radio host Sean Hannity. "He said he was very disappointed, we'd been friends. I said John, we're still friends, but [the Swiftvets] have first amendment rights, just as your people have first amendment rights.
Dole told Kerry, "I'm not trying to stir anything up, but I don't believe everyone of these people who have talked about what happened are Republican liars.
"And very frankly, Bush is my guy, and I'm tired of people on your side calling him everything from a coward to a traitor to everything - a deserter."
Dole said he urged Kerry, "Why don't you call George Bush today and say, 'Mr. President, let's stop all this stuff about the National Guard and Vietnam - and let's talk about the issues."
Dole said Kerry responded, "I haven't spent one dime attacking President Bush."
But the Republican war hero shot back, "You don't have to. You've got all the so-called mainstream media, plus you've got MoveOn.org. and all these other groups that have spent millions and millions of dollars trying to tarnish Bush's image."
"Don't tell me you don't know what some of these people are doing," he told Kerry.
"Everybody like quiet heroes," Dole added, saying he told Kerry, "John, everybody knows you were in Vietnam and the less you say about it, the better."
Dole said he tried to end the tense conversation cordially by telling Kerry, "I wish you good luck, up to a point."
Sorry, all rubber rooms are already spoken for by Dean, Gore, McCaulliffe (sp., like I care), Kewwy, Mathews, Podesta, DeVine, Kucinich, well, you get the idea.
Instead, just go ahead and punch out the tv. I have.
I disagree. Ackroyd's take was bitter, MacDonald's was more fun. And MacDonald is a Dole fan.
Wow! Go Bob Go!
Even if Dole rips Kerry for 48 straight hours, he shouldn't go see a doctor!
He never lets them talk anyway. Chrissie doesn't need any guests. He asks and answers all of his own questions.
Nov 5th, 2000 (Campaigning for VP Gore)
"Those of us who were in the military wonder how it is that someone who is supposedly serving on active duty...can miss a whole year of service without even explaining where it went." (Made as a character attack on then-Governor Bush)
Note: This man must HATE the digital age, where all of his speeches and comments are recorded for all the world to see... Maybe he will change his story to say that he was near Pittsburgh, but not actually IN Pittsburgh on election eve 2000, so he couldn't possibly have made these statements.
Never say that to a man on Viagra.
Condolences on being in the same zip code as George Mitchell.
Dubya is playing this exactly right. Somethings go best unsaid.
Besides, I'd imagine in Kerry's mind, the only attack that would fall under that category is an advertisement.
So, if interviewed, and an attack should slip out, and be re-run by the news media, why, not one dime was spent...
So, if speaking at a fundraiser, or a campaign stop, and an attack should spring forth, why, here again, not one dime was spent...
Typical lawyer speak. Not, "I haven't attacked the Pres.," nor, "I've only responded to attacks," no, instead it's "I've not SPENT ONE DIME."
Statement, I dub thee nuance, and bid thee begone!
IMHO, of course...
Now that is the kind of response this pig needs to be hit in the face with. Nice going Bob.
A brilliant observation!!
I think you've hit the nail on the head.
Honorable is as honorable does.
Not at all. Listen to Dole & Bush;
they're on seperate but parallel
tracks, & each does what their
current roles allow them to do.
Dole supports Bush, big time.
He'd say, "What knife in my back?"
Major Garrett just said on Special Report that the Kerry campaign is now admitting that Kerry's first PH may have come from an " unintentional self inflicted wound."
Wanna bet?
See #175
Did you think he left his honor and courage on that hillside in Italy? I know you didn't mean it, but it's still a poor choice of words.
Heaven help us if this Pinnochio gets elected.
Anyone from Kentucky here.....You're needed over here.....http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1197669/posts?page=61
Seems MoveON is mailing materials out of Louisville possibly using the wrong branch/funds.....Legal beagles needed.....not that they're ever going to follow the law.
