Under pressure from Democrats and Republican Sen. John McCain, ... Typical Reuters. The President has repeatedly called for an end to the ads of the 527's. But now, when sKerry & Co. "call" for him to do it, he's under pressure.
To: KQQL
It would be short sighted to condemn the condemnation. First, Bush condemned all 527 ads, not this one in particular (the contrary statement in the piece nowithstanding): "that ad
and every other ad..." (emphasis mine).
Second, this innoculates Bush in the minds of right-thinking people. He's already condemned this ad (and all others), so blame for its continued airing cannot be placed on his shoulders.

That ads attacking Kerry, should stop-The very instant that the liberal media becomes bi-partisan and stops covering Kerry's Arse and begins airing the truth told by the Swift Vets in bold headlines on the Front page of every News Paper in America and loudly on ABC,CBS,NBC,CNN,FOX,MSNBC and Public broadcasting. But not before the multitude of Ads attacking Bush, are stopped by the Terrorists for Kerry.

Now that Bush has praised Kerry Vietnam war record, and condemned the swiftboats adds, the swiftboats vet will rapidly lose all creditability and Kerry will be a sympathetic victim of GOP dirty tricks. Great Job W, you just blew it big time.

"But Bush stopped short of directly condemning the charge that Kerry lied about his actions." These people will not be satisfied, no matter what! It's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

"Bush Says 'That Ad' Attacking Kerry Should Stop"
The usual half-truths from the propaganda wing of the Stalinist liberal party.
Bush didn't say that "that ad" attacking Kerry should stop. He said that all 527 ads should stop.
To: KQQL
"He ought to be proud of his record." .... This statement segways perfectly to Kerry's post-Nam activities. Smart play!

Bush is shooting himself in the foot again.Get a grip. You gotta learn smart politics when you see it. You didn't have to see Bush winking when he made his statement to "hear" Bush winking. Everybody, especially Dubya, knows that the SBVFT aren't going to stop their commercials.

>> Bush Says 'That Ad' Attacking Kerry Should Stop
This is a bogus headline. It is a lie by way of omission.

There was once a presidential candidate who went to war as a volunteer Navy Officer, brought his own 16 mm movie camera and spent 16 minutes or less (some say none) in an airplane as a passenger when it was attacked by the enemy. . This man received the Silver Star, and wore it on his label for ever more.
If you are old enough you will remember him as President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Surely, a man psychologically poorly equiped to make the reasoned judgements required for the leader of the Free World.
Too bad we didn't have some like the Swift Boat Vets in 1964. If we had, and Lyndon hadn't been elected it would have been a boon.

Probably one of the smoothest political moves I have seen in a long time...very subtle stealthy, and dumps the mess back in Kerry's lap and he can't run a crying to W anymore...pretty slick I must say.
To: KQQL
Calling for an end to 527 advertising is (politically) OK but Bush made two mistakes here. First, he should not have said that Kerry should be proud of his service. This was unnecessary and does make it seem like he thinks the sbvft are wrong. Second, he should have said that, in his opinion, these controversies about what may or may not have happened 35 years ago are not very important and what is important is what the president for the next four years will do. The Bush campaign should continue comparing his and Kerry's public records and achievements and policies. This is highly favorable to Bush since Kerry doesn't really have any.
Of course I also think the sbvft will and should continue their ads.

You are asking the wrong guy to stop the Swift Vets Ad, Mr Kerry, it's your side that fears the truth.

(Hey Kerry! the Swift Vets and you, know which story is true-you say they lied-we say prove it.)
To: KQQL
Bush said Kerry "served admirably" in Vietnam, adding: "He ought to be proud of his record." But Bush stopped short of directly condemning the charge that Kerry lied about his actions. The phrase "stopped short" implies that he came close. Bush doesn't even come close to condemning Kerry for his sketchy war record.

"I thought we dealt with these things when I signed the McStain-Findgold Campaign Finance Reform bill (that lost me a bunch of votes)?" Next...
I have no doubts the illegal coordination between Moveon.commie, Michael Moore, the DNC and John Kerry...

I love all these cries of caving from the usual suspects. President Bush has been openly opposed to ALL such ads from the very beginning...now by simply restating what he has already stated many times:
- the left is claiming he was forced to announce...what he's already announced so often, and
- the usual suspects are accusing him of caving - for standing firm on his position since day one.
Wow...some folks are soooooo easy.

good move? bad move? time will tell...
Good to distance himself from the ads (but I hope they keep running them...) People need to be informed or they will believe Kerry's lies.
Bad that Kerry will never say Farenheit 911 should stop being played, or that MoveOn's tv ads should stop. Then they'd be the only ads on the air.
Hope it was a good move. Hope it's not a sheeple election!
