More to come

I will wait for the actual statment, but I will not vote for him if this is true. He lacks principle if he tries to stop political speech.
Exactly right. Another voice of reason!
He can't. He signed the bill, remember?
The Swifties as a group are not supporting Bush.... they are against John Kerry. Remember that.
I didn't get the exact quote, but the first 3-4 questions from the media were about the Swift Boat ad specifically. The answer to the last question about the ad was "that ad--and all other ads...." He then talked about how he signed McCain Feingold. He then moved onto questions about other things.
Just reported on the radio, Bush called on Kerry to join him in calling an end to all negative 527 ads.
A good response. John McCain can't object to Bush's position on the swiftboat ads now. But there's no way the Dems are going to muzzle Moveon.org, so the swiftboat ads will stay on the air.
BINGO!
Whan are you folks going to STOP JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS based on media reports!? You have to listen to the President speaking the words before you trash what he says!! He has said all along that ALL 527's should stop attack ads. He has never, as far as I know, repudiated the Swift Boat Vet ads.
He knows this is a fight between Kerry and the men with whom he served, and who he trashed when he returned from Vietnam. He is concentrating on Kerry's record in the Senate.
Funny how everyone around here is "breathing a sigh of relief" since he's called for ALL 527 ads to be yanked.
Doesn't it bug people that Bush is trying to limit their freedom of speech?
As much as I despise the left and moveon.org types, I don't think they should be silenced by law.
This bit of strategery also gives Bush the ability to take the high road. He can talk about the accomplishments of his first term, and what he envisions for the next term (i.e., he can talk about issues), while Kerry will enter September refighting the Vietnam war. Kerry's campaign is growing increasingly irrelevant, while Bush retains his position of being both relevant and presidential.
That is the I'm readin it Matt......this gives Bush cover..he has denounced a 527 ads.
It should be "Bush Seeks End to Independent Ads" (as he has from the beginning)
This incorrect title is leading people to think that Bush is a wuss.
"It should be "Bush Seeks End to Independent Ads" (as he has from the beginning)
This incorrect title is leading people to think that Bush is a wuss. "
That headline "Bush seeks to end independent ads" should send a shiver down the spine of every person on this board.
My question to McNeil would be even if it was shown that the ads are now hurting Bush, would he still continue running the ads? If the ads continued to run, there could be a problem here. If the ads were pulled, McNeil would clearly have Bush's best interest in mind rather than his own dislike of Kerry. I would hope McNeil's dislike of Kerry would not get in the way of the Bush campaign.
Exactly right. This puts the ball in Kerry's court. The Dems are spending a lot more on the 527 groups than Bush is, so Kerry's now in a box.
It took until post 45 for anyone to even come close to suggesting that Bush once again is calling for the abrogation of free speech.
I watched the president. He said "ALL 527 ADS." He said he thought that he had fixed the problem when he signed McCain-Feingold.
