Dole: Kerry Should Apologize

Former Senator Suggests Kerry Should Apologize for Congressional Testimony About Vietnam War Atrocities

By Pete Yost The Associated Press

Sunday, August 22, 2004; 4:42 PM

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) -- Former Republican Sen. Bob Dole suggested Sunday that John Kerry apologize for past testimony before Congress about alleged atrocities during the Vietnam War and joined critics of the Democratic presidential candidate who say he received an early exit from combat for "superficial wounds."

Dole also called on Kerry to release all the records of his service in Vietnam.

Dole shakes hands with his left because his right arm is shot to Hell thanks to Germans in Italy.

Ah yes the Germans. Aren't these some of the allies George W is supposed to have failed to rally to our cause ?

"But the Post should have described Dole's wound's in WWII as very severe, multiple, and life-threatening. Dole shakes hands with his left because his right arm is shot to Hell thanks to Germans in Italy."

I met Bob Dole in 1988 when he was running for the nomination and after his speech, I like many went to shake his hand. Me being a yungin' I made the mistake of reaching for his right hand. As I realized my mistake, he graciously interceded with his left hand, saying, before my obvious embarrassment was verbalized, that it happens all the time and thanked me for being a young person that cared enough to come out and meet him. I gave a relieved "Thanks!", wished him good luck and he continued through the crowd.

It was a gracious encounter that I never forgot.

Dole is the Republican answer to John McCain.

Ever notice when a Republican doesn't go to war, he's "shirking his duty, a coward...". When a lefty runs to Canada, he's "a hero taking a stand against an unjust war."

Dole is the Republican answer to John McCain.

That's it in a nut shell. McCain just can't find it in him to quit sucking up to Kerry.

This is big. Dole is a respected, known commodity and folks (older particularly) know of him and about him. Maybe the media will now focus on JFnK releasing his records (say, how come we didn't think about that?) and will realize, belatedly, that Kerry has no intention of doing so....What does that tell you, folks???

happydog

McCain is still upset that he didn't win the nomination in 2000. Get over it, you whining RINO. Face up to the fact that Lurch isn't fit to tie Dole's shoelaces.

At least it is better than the treatment that Bob Dole got from the Boston Globe:

Big lies for Bush (Outrageous! Media Scum Claim Kerry is Genuine War Hero, Bob Dole is NOT!)

IMAGINE IF supporters of Bill Clinton had tried in 1996 to besmirch the military record of his opponent, Bob Dole. After all, Dole was given a Purple Heart for a leg scratch probably caused, according to one biographer, when a hand grenade thrown by one of his own men bounced off a tree. And while the serious injuries Dole sustained later surely came from German fire, did the episode demonstrate heroism on Dole's part or a reckless move that ended up killing his radioman and endangering the sergeant who dragged Dole off the field?

[snip]

Kerry, on the other hand, may have done more than Dole to qualify as a genuine war hero. Although his tour in Vietnam was short, on at least two occasions he acted decisively and with great daring in combat, saving at least one man's life and earning both a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. That's not our account or Kerry's; it is drawn from eyewitnesses and the military citations themselves.

I enjoy Bob Dole. He's a good man and is definitely on Dubya's side.

People like Bob Dole. They know his story of courage and overcoming his wounds, which haunt him to this day. This is like the grown-ups coming in and telling the little children, "Now don't be fibbing and making up stories, Johnny."

Senator Dole is an easy one to send out. He's not up for re-election. When the rest of the Republicans come out for the Swifties, I will feel much better.

I'm going to be flamed for this, but the media is not on the Swiftie's side, and will do or say anything to make this for Kerry and against Bush.

It's like the impeachment--we were right, but it didn't matter, because the media told America that it didn't matter-it was only about sex. We knew it was about perjury.

Too bad, too sad--

Bob Dole doesn't get riled up all that easily.

Screw the media, they haven't been honest with this country since Walter Cronkite said "Tet is a failure".

Then McGreevey's ouster was about "being gay"

The Swift Vets are funded by rich Republicans

"It's just about sex".

Scott Peterson was "guilty as hell", now they want to defend him to his death.

I could go on and on, but I won't. The media is just plain dishonest.

Like I said in another thread, Bob Dole isn't going to be taking cheapshots and suckerpunches lightly from here on out.

It was Kerry's mistake to mention Bob Dole's name even off-handedly. Bob Dole was given an invitation to fight for President Bush by John Kerry.

Much as I'd like to see that, I think we're better off if they stay detached from this.

Any support an elected Republican shows for the SVFT would be pounced upon by the old media as proof of collusion between Bush and the veterans.
