CRAWFORD, Texas - Former Republican Sen. Bob Dole suggested Sunday that John Kerry (news - web sites) apologize for past testimony before Congress about alleged atrocities during the Vietnam War and joined critics of the Democratic presidential candidate who say he received an early exit from combat for "superficial wounds." Dole uses the 'apology' card cleverly, it's about time the pub's start demanding public apologies from demmies.

Claim: During a 1972 trip to North Vietnam, Jane Fonda propagandized on behalf of the North Vietnamese government, declared that American POWs were being treated humanely and condemned U.S. soldiers as "war criminals" and later denounced them as liars for claiming they had been tortured.
Status: True.

Will some of you military and ex military folks explain something to me. Kerry pulls a man out of the water into his swift boat. How is this physically possible (and supposedly he did it with hand) if the man in the water is about 4 or 5 or more feet below Kerry?
Thank you.

The dim spin is that Kerry was testifying to what others told him - I guess that means you go before Congress to testify (under oath?) about things you aren't really sure of? Outrageous.

"Senator Kerry carries shrapnel in his thigh as distinct from President Bush who carries two fillings in his teeth from his service in the Alabama National Guard, which seems to be his only time that he showed up," John Podesta, former chief of staff in the Clinton White House, said on ABC's "This Week." Talk about a vile smear. The only time Bush showed up was to go to the dentist? I wish the Pubbies would show more outrage about these despicable lies.

He was a Viet Nam Vet against the War with Kerry - they go way back.

How could he pull out a guy 4 feet down? - He's John Kerry - he can do anything! He can be in Cambodia and 50 miles downriver on the same Christmas eve. He can be a Vietnam war hero alone, while everyone else was committing atrocities.

I agree with you, oldbill, but this is a serious question. Nobody has brought this up yet.

You are right and he is going to get rid of US dependance on fossil fuel and all Americans will have the same insurance as Senators and an Indian will be in the White Housea and the list goes on and on

Maybe someone should ask Podesta if he's stopped beating his wife yet...

I am one of those people who believe there's a reason
for everything, and I am thinking now, that Bob Dole's
reputation as a NICE, FAIR guy has now come into play
when it's most needed. To wit:
Dole told CNN's "Late Edition" that he warned Kerry months ago about going "too far" and that the Democrat may have himself to blame for the current situation, in which polls show him losing support among veterans.
"One day he's saying that we were shooting civilians, cutting off their ears, cutting off their heads, throwing away his medals or his ribbons," Dole said. "The next day he's standing there, `I want to be president because I'm a Vietnam veteran.
"Maybe he should apologize to all the other 2.5 million veterans who served. He wasn't the only one in Vietnam," said Dole, whose World War II wounds left him without the use of his right arm.
Dole added: "And here's, you know, a good guy, a good friend. I respect his record. But three Purple Hearts and never bled that I know of. I mean, they're all superficial wounds. Three Purple Hearts and you're out."
Bob Dole has the credentials and the solid
reputation as a forthright and fair partisan,
and his words hit Kerry hard.
If nothing else, Bob Dole is believed by the
voters...
