Out of sheer boredom, I tuned in for a few minutes of the Olympics.
Beach volleyball ?Badmitton ?
Saints preserve us ! What's next ??
New 2008 Olympic Events
1.Hop,Skip, and Scream: Generously proportioned female contestants, spaced 3 meters apart for safety, attempt to put on a pair of blue jeans, that are 2 sizes too small.
2.Commutation: Male and/or female contestants, driving really huge SUVs,must navigate a ten kilometer track-liberally equipped with dangerous intersections and short-duration signals-while conducting a telephone conversation (using hand-held cell phones),and sipping a very hot beverage (coffee ,cocoa,or tea).Object is to reach a finish line parking lot,and enter the door before competitors.Extra points awarded for stylish hand gestures, and for quality and volume of vocal commentary.
How about it Freepers ?? Can you suggest some more New Olympic Events ??
Why not just skip the bowling and poker and focus on the main events - drinking and smoking?
The only Olympics that still has any integrity is the Paralympics. Even that, though, has its bad actors. BTW, how many hours of the Paralympics is being aired in the U. S.?
The answer is zero.
How about watermelon seed spitting and cherry pit spitting both for distance and accuracy ;-)
My personal peeve is beach volleyball. I might be able to take it more seriously if the females playing were dressed similarly to the males playing this sport. The men wear sleeveless t-shirts, roomy and long, with what looks like walking/cargo shorts. The girls wear bikinis. Sorry, this is just too obviously different for me to take either (but especially the women) seriously.
I always hear these complaints, though, about certain sports not actually being sports. Equestrian comes to mind. I have come to the conclusion that if you aren't watching a particular sport, or if you don't like that sport, you want it tossed out.
Now that is what I call a work of art!
I too give NBC a thumbs down on their Olympic coverage -
their choice of events to air, their camera work, their commentary - it all leaves much to be desired.
Keith Olberman's snide and obnoxious commentary during the opening ceremonies drove me to turn it off.
Watching endless discussion about Scott Peterson, Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant and political pundits shouting the same exact talking points over and over at each other is better than watching beach volleyball ;)
Thank God the Olympics are here.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Womens Beach Volleyball - the clothing they wear is just about....right!
Not quite. Those damned "sports bras" don't allow any room for "mental manuevers".
