a piece of shrapnel above Mr. Kerry's left elbow - but he and others in the group argue that it was minor and self-inflicted."

self-inflicted implies intentional.

Many people have auto accidents that are self-inflicted but are they intentional....no of course not.

Was the shrapnel American made or Russian made?

That is the question.

Really, all of this is too easy. The omission of the letterhead seems amateurish at first glance, but only at first glance. At second glance it could seem that someone with his and/or her sights set on the election in 2008 has arranged for us to discover discrepancies in Kerry's record which will contribute to his loss, just as Gore was meant to barely lose in 2000.

Can we hear the bleatings of the sacrificial lamb?

I haven't been following the swift boat story that closely because nothing in that story -- one side or the other -- could convince me to vote for Kerry. But of the little bit I have read or heard, this is the first I've learned that Kerry was awarded the bronze star at least 12 years after the fact. Although the delay, by itself, does not diminish the value of the award, it certainly raises questions when the recipient is a career politician who apparently used Viet Namn as a photo op. If that had been President Bush, you can bet that the NY Slimes would demand the release of his records.

So he doesn't need to release all his records after all. He just needs to show everyone the scars.

"Especially the first one has been subject to criticism, because it is reported to have required no hospitalization, indeed was treated by application of a band-aid."

Well, actually, by this standard, the second and third ones are also suspect since they did not require hospitalization either. Three purple hearts and no hospitalization?

I am not so sure that we're getting anywhere beating this controversy back and forth. I keep looking for the tactic that would be behind Kerry's keeping his record in the forefront. I'm just skeptical enough to think that rather than being in full retreat and near implosion the Kerry campaign people are using this, which they know full well can't really be solved to everyone's satisfaction, to keep attention from something that would stick. I wonder if that something isn't his anit-war activities. That seems to be the one thing that no one can question, there's film and tape and photos and interviews to make it totally undeniable. Wonder if they haven't focus grouped lots and lots of veterans and found that his outright treasonous behavior after the war isn't the one thing that would hurt him. An old magician's trick is to perform a really sloppy trick that everyone can tell that he's palming something and while they're all rejoicing to think that they've 'discovered' his trickery he's doing the real magic trick with this other hand or behind him. It would not surmise me to find out the official records back Kerry's version of most of what he claims, so he can delay, delay, delay releasing them and burn up tons of time and effort on something that when he finally does release won't be all that bad (a la Clinton). All this medal brouhaha is minimizing the amount of attention paid to the antiwar thing. Their reaction to the latest ad could be an indication that the Swifties are getting near a sensitive nerve. Why would he protest to the FEC this ad and not the first one. Nope, I fear we're being led down the primrose path. Just a thought.

It would seem to be TOO easy for author Redman, who insists on making it hard. The omission of the letterhead on the Kerry website is deliberate, yes. Whatever the date on the letter may be, it is necessarily years after the end of the war and recognizeable by anyone as such, whereas the name "John Lehman" in the office of Secretary of the Navy does not for most people trigger the same realization. Lurch's Bronze Star is obviously the result of a post-war lobbying campaign by ... someone who wanted him to have another medal. It is better for someone if this isn't too obvious.

He made up the Christmas in Cambodia story. Only some sociopathic personality would promote a lie like that. I've heard the excuse today that he believed his own lie so that was understandable.

No, it isn't. That excuse is just plain scary. Christmas in Cambodia is enough for me.

Kerry. It is remarkable given the times that someone of his "class" even got to Vietnam. Some of us served once, resigned, then were forced to return again. His collection of medals, one month of orienttion and 90 days of service (one patrol), and then departure. Wow. Hero? Nope. Fourflusher? Yep. Typical for "professional" politician. I bet Al Gore is happy they have someone else to "examine" these days.

God knows I hope this Kerry doesn't become a President.

Kerry still has not signed a pentagon form 180 so the pentagon can release all his original and correct military and medial history records. This would be so simple to do and clear up the swift boat vets claims.

Why won't Kerry sign the form 180?

Is it because he has to much to hide from the people? Instead he chooses to attack the Swift Boat Vets rather then prove them wrong.

I would imagine many Vietnam veterans who are loyal Americans had no respect for Kerry even before this came out. I remember the shock I felt, as a young person, who was stunned when I heard Kerry's version of our soldiers committing war crimes in Vietnam.

Anybody who has an ounce of sense, and half the voters don't, will question Kerry's stay in Vietnam for only four months, winning his so called medals of honor in that time. In his own words to Dick Cavett, while lying through his teeth about our brave American soldiers, "I was a war criminal, too" - meaning that he participated in cutting heads off, rape, plunder and the other crimes which he stated in his appearance before the congressional committee. Mind you, he did all this in 3 or 4 months. If Kerry is not a liar then Bill Clinton is as pure as the driven snow.

They fact that he came home after four months, and slandered our soldiers he left behind alone would cause me to vote for George Bush - but then I am a logical person. I call things as I see them, and I am usually right on.

The Bronze star was awared that many years after the fact??

I knew he was going to lose (The Couric/Russert soft pedal on the MTP interview of Bush last spring was the final straw - I knew the Big Media was soft pedaling on purpose then) ... but sheesh.

This fact, along with all the others, begs the question: why did the democrats pick someone, with such incredibly easy to find information about how rotten he is, to be the nominee?

Oh, I keep forgetting. Hillary, 2008. Thanks for the reminder Christie.

And, what's in it for the 9 veterans who served with, and support kerry? Probably the typical Democrat patronage payoff of a soft job with a gold badge ..... assigned to a do-nothing job with the U.S. Marshalls Service. The Dem's are good at getting their friends those prestineous government jobs with all the perks, but no responsibilities. This is not saying the the USMS is a do-nothing Agency, just that there is a lot of "fluff" built in just for payoffs like this.

Mommy Heinz!
Help!

Look! What the Harvard Crimson wrote about me in 1970

Published on Wednesday, February 18, 1970
John Kerry: A Navy Dove Runs for Congress
By SAMUEL Z. GOLDHABER
Crimson Staff Writer

"...One time Kerry was ordered to destroy a Viet Cong village
but disobeyed orders and suggested that the Navy Command
simply send in a Psychological Warfare team to be
friend the villagers with food, hospital supplies,
and better educational facilities."

Now my shipmates on the
USS GRIDLEY CG-21
are attacking me.

and see what
the USS GRIDLEY crew say.

They say I told lies in Tour of Duty
GRIDLEY CREW ARE LIKE
SWIFT BOAT VETS MEANIES!

Mommy : Can I please sell MY real book?
The New Soldier,
By John Kerry
and Vietnam Veterans Against the War

Mommy : Please don't be mad
about my hero Al Hubbard.

Head of Kerry's Vietnam Vets Against the War was Vietnam Vet phony
"Many of the stories were later shown to be fictional. Other so-called Vietnam veterans, such as the executive secretary of VVAW, Al Hubbard, a self-styled poet ("See what you've become, Amerika," ends one of his Vietnam odes),
turned out to have no record of service in Vietnam."

OOPS! I POOPED in my diaper again.

Mommy : Don't take my allowance away.
Mommy : Why does McCain
still campaign with Bush?
Mommy : Why doesn't Al Gore defend me?
He is a Vietnam Vet.

Mommy : OOPS I Pooped again.

Mommy : Why did Hillary
"leak" FBI Files on me?
I even used her famous slogan?

"Kerry entered and abandoned Vietnamese village and slaughtered domestic animals
owned by the civilians and burned down their homes with his Zippo lighter."

It only takes one idiot to raze a village!
(My original response!)

Mommy : Where is Ted Kennedy?

For this deed Kerry was awarded a Bronze Star. Because the letterhead of this document is not shown, we cannot precisely ascertain the date this award was conferred upon him.

However, we can roughly determine the period. John Lehman served as Secretary of the Navy under President Reagan from 1981 to 1987. Kerry was thus awarded his Bronze Star years after the fact when he was either a public prosecutor (1976-1982), Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts (1983-1985) or a U.S. Senator (1985 until present).

Belated awards of medals for bravery in combat to politicians are always suspect, but Kerry could help us out here too by providing us with more information

Maybe 5 to 10 percent of those reading the citation realized that this was awarded more that a decade after the event. (maybe that many, but I doubt it). If only we had a fair media. sigh
