Brinkley told the Atlantic magazine, which excerpted a portion of the book, that he interviewed "every single one" of John Kerry's crewmates on the so-called swift boats that Kerry captained in Vietnam. But in fact he did not interview crew member Steven Gardner, and -- surprise! -- Gardner turned out to be the only one of Kerry's crewmates who disliked his former commander. "I would have talked to Gardner, but I couldn't find him," Brinkley says now.

The whole Kerry 'nam tour story is unravelling faster than one of my mu-shi pancakes.
Doug Brinkley is a HORRIBLE HISTORIAN!! He sure didn't tell the complete story...did ya Dougie, Lap Dog of the Kerry's???
Dagnabbit! This thing is spinnin' out of control. The whole frickin' war hero facade of JFK is falling apart like a Yugo.
Was Brinkley the one who said he had gotten a table-ful of Kerry documents under a FOIA request, but that a burglar made off with them?
WOW. If the Boston Globe, of Iraqi "rape" picture infamy, is printing articles calling Kerry's Nam tour into question he is a goner.
What they can't deny--
He wasn't in Cambodia.
He was only in combat for three months.
He betrayed the men fighting and dying in Vietnam.
He slandered good brave men and his self promoting, bs "war crimianl" testimony in front of the Senate Committee caused pain for POWs at the hands of their NV captors.
He provided aid and comfort to the enemy and hurt and stigmatized the good guys.
F Kerry. He's a traitor and anybody that allies themselves with him is a sorry SOB.
He is simply UNACCEPTABLE!!!
Steve Gardners a real Vietnam hero. They didn't want mess with him, let alone hear his side of the story, because his story rocks J F'n K's story.
He couldn't find Gardner...LOL.
He couldn't find the truth if it bit him in the ass!
And for you Bill Oreilly for praising the book, so much for fair and balanced....you are unfair and definitely unbalanced!
It appears that Brinkley has become the literary equivalent of Golan Cipl .
The Globe piece excoriates the sloppy and lazy Brinkley as nothing more than a willing receptacle for Kerry's fantasies and lies.
" After the Kerry campaign learned that the Globe had interviewed Gardner for its Kerry biography, Brinkley called Gardner. ....warned Gardner of a "firestorm" if the vet went public with his doubts about Kerry, and then hacked out an article attacking the former gunner's mate on Time magazine's website!"
" Hilariously, Kerry declined to talk to the Globe about Gardner's criticisms, but graced Brinkley with his opinion -- uncritically relayed by the historian -- that Gardner's stories were "made up."
He's a historian?
Is it common for historians to be so enamored with their subjects like Brinkley is with Kerry?
Check the date this was written. Beam smelled a rat long before The Swifties went public but it got little notice. We need to disect that book further.
Stalin had any number of "historians" employed in the same manner as Brinkley.
I'm sure he'd be more than happy to talk to you now. It would be an excellent opportunity for you to revise your book.
He was only in combat for three months.
According to my timeline he was in combat less than 8 weeks.
Kerry titles his book "Tour of Duty" for his service in Vietnam. He also claims that he had TWO tours of duty in Vietnam (because of his time on the USS Gridley)
Kerry twists the truth so much, you have to watch EVERY WORD HE SAYS. He will lie to you and weave a story (lie) so subtly that you are unaware that he is taking you down the prim-rosed path.
Here is the truth as compared to Kerry's lies. KERRY NEVER EVEN SERVED ONE TOUR IN VIETNAM. HE IS A LIER.
Yes he was in Vietnam (for 4 months) and yes he was on the deep water coast of Vietnam on the USS Gridley (for 5 weeks)but he did not serve a tour in Vietnam.
A Tour in the Nam was 12 months, one year, 365 days, one circle around the sun. Guys would count down the days until their time was up. It was a big deal. When you only had a few weeks to go until your year was up, you were "SHORT", going home soon.
This issue is important for this reason. John Kerry knows that he didn't serve a Tour, let alone TWO Tours, yet he brazenly reports that he did, he lies. Kerry lies about almost everything. That's my point. He can not be trusted.
One might argue 'Well, the time that Kerry spent in Nam was HIS tour, so what is the big deal". If that is your argument then Kerry should have named his book "My Time in Nam" or something. Not lie and give the impression that he spent a tour in Nam. AND, there is NO excuse for his claim for TWO TOURS in Nam, my God. What a lier.
Kerry's lies smack of Michael Mooreism.
As far as Unfit for Command is concerned, I have read it. The Swifties could give a crap less if John Kerry got medals, their issue is the same as what I explained above (and the fact that Kerry smeared their good name with lies) and that is that Kerry can not be trusted. He is unfit for command.
