The second explosion is the new element added to save Kerry's ass. Without it Kerry looks like the poser he is. Note that Kerry NOW admits the other boats did not flee. Why does the WaPo fail to mention this character assassination and exaggeration? Water-boys!

Good catch on Alston shown in the picture. LOL.

Read between the lines. From my reading of it, WaPo seems to implicitly endorse the Swifties claim that Kerry fled the scene.

It also shows how Brinkley said a Kerry BOB was on a mission with him when he wasn't.

It also shows that Kerry and Brinkley refuse to go on the record and that Kerry refuses to release his diary and his full military records.

We also have the fact that Kerry only used 4 months in Nam. Kerry backers had routinely said, " Kerry served two tours in Nam." Now it is common knowledge that he only served 1/3 of a tour.

WaPo should have shown that Kerry's website and Brinkley's "tour Of Duty" place Rassman on a boat other than Kerry's. That's really fishy. Rassman says he was on Kerry's boat. Kerry and Brinkley lied about it because then they would have to explain how Rassman fell off his boat-- the truth is Rassman fell off when Kerry fled not from a second explosion.

And WaPo should have said that Kerry's arm injury was a bruise. That no-good, treasonous SOB poached a "Get out of Nam" Purple Heart for a bruise on his arm and rice in his A$$ (that didn't even happen in a combat situation).

Kerry is a fraud.

While this WaPo piece is not totally balanced, it does at least tell both sides of the story with equal credibility attached. It's more than one can say for the NYT and AP.

I just read the entire article and I'm stunned!

It's the most objective example of main stream media I've seen in a year.

Kerry has to be mad as hell.

This could all be cleared up in a heartbeat if John Fraud Kerry were merely to sign form SF-180 and release his military personnel record to the public. Funny how the Post never mentioned that.

Surely you don't expect the Wash Post to discover and print the truth, do you?????

"Kerry's boat raced off down the river, away from the ambush zone."

"It is unclear how far down the river Kerry's boat was when he turned around. It could have been anywhere from a few hundred yards to a mile".

O'Neill has always stated Kerry fled the scene.

This article is about as clear a repudiation of Kerry's story as one could expect from a lefty pub. Were it fairly written, that which is "between the lines" would be stated. You could be sure if Bush published a book full of lies, the WaPo would not hesitate to say "Bush published a book of lies." There would be no lines to read between.

By the way, since when do the words of some Veterans in interviews or in a book warrant MORE scrutiny than the words of a Presidential candidate? That must be new. I'd always thought that someone aspiring to the highest office of the land should be held to a higher degree of scrutiny. I guess '98 took that expectation away - - for Democrats anyway.

That said, it is a start and it opens the door for other publications.

I do believe that Kerry is toast. Apart from all of the revelations, his total meltdown has begun with his "finger pointing" speech the other day and the FEC filing. He will lose his mind, and the race, over this issue and his immature reaction.

I've seen a list of 10 different versions of whose's boat Rassmann was on somewhere.

Also Christmas in Cambodia.

Also the sampan incident with Gardner where Kerry adds 4 extra enemy.

This could all be cleared up in a heart beat if John Fraud Kerry were merely to sign SF-180 and release his military personnel record to the public.

Funny how the Post never mentioned that.

Some of the mystery surrounding exactly what happened on the Bay Hap River in March 1969 could be resolved by the full release of all relevant records and personal diaries. Much information is available from the Web sites of the Kerry campaign and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and the Navy archives. But both the Kerry and anti-Kerry camps continue to deny or ignore requests for other relevant documents, including Kerry's personal reminiscences (shared only with biographer Brinkley), the boat log of PCF-94 compiled by Medeiros (shared only with Brinkley) and the Chenoweth diary.

Although Kerry campaign officials insist that they have published Kerry's full military records on their Web site (with the exception of medical records shown briefly to reporters earlier this year), they have not permitted independent access to his original Navy records. A Freedom of Information Act request by The Post for Kerry's records produced six pages of information. A spokesman for the Navy Personnel Command, Mike McClellan, said he was not authorized to release the full file, which consists of at least a hundred pages.

I think they did cover that..!

You're right. If they were completely objective, Kerry would be a goner.

go to his website and search for Jim rassman. It says that Rassman was on another boat. Same thing in Brinkley's book. WaPo should be sured for journalist malpractice for not including that glaring discrepancy.

One related question? In my time in the Vietnam conflict, did either my stepson (Captain, 82nd Airborne) or I ever see any member of the armed forces carry a movie camera -- for any purpose?

Answer: NO! But, LTjg. Kerry did! Why, and for what purpose?

We all know the answer. Major character defect in evidence here, folks. What a disgrace to the uniform of the Senior Service.

Unless Mr. Heinz Kerry signs an SF-180 what is going to happen is he is going to release a lot of irrelevant crap and the media is going to say " See, he released all his records."

I didn't either, but many did have 35 mm slide cameras. Most pictures of their friends, girl friends and scenery. Perhaps the Navy had different people than we, but I frequently visited Danang, etc and never saw a 16 mm there as well. The idea of someone reconstructing a combat experience for a home movie seems arrogant and bizarre.

That takes care of the second mine explsion claim. I saw Michael Dobbs on Lou Dobb's show the other day and he was trying to be fair and balanced. Said the Post had made mutiple requests for Kerry's military records from the Kerry campaign without success.

Confirmation from the Navy, that Kerry hasn't released all his service records.
