RNC tells TV stations not to run anti-Bush ads GOP committee says MoveOn.org's spots are illegally financed
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Republican National Committee is warning television stations across the country not to run ads from the MoveOn.org Voter Fund that criticize President Bush, charging that the left-leaning political group is paying for them with money raised in violation of the new campaign-finance law.
.....
But MoveOn.org's lawyer, Joseph Sandler, said in a statement that the ads were funded legally, calling the RNC's letter "a complete misrepresentation of the law."

LOL. Howdy from Bush Country California (FResno County).
As much as I wish you were right, I don't recall Congress ever saying, "Boy that was stupid, let's go back where we were." The usual response is, "Boy, that didn't work. We didn't go far enough and better strengthen it."
Sad.
I think the Congress needs to do an emergency repeal of the asinine CFR laws. Maybe that's where all this will lead.
This is from earlier this year. I was sure that BC04 had already bought this up. Now it is payback time.
Stupid
What I like most about this is that the Republicans aren't backing down and wimping out in order to be "loved" by those who will NEVER love them.
The McCain/Dole/GHWBush types would have asked the stations not to run the ANTI-KERRY spots, to try to be loved, when in fact they would just look stupid and wimpy.
No more. Kerry wants to pretend the Swiftvets are connected to the RNC? Fine--throw it right back at them with the much stronger ties between the DNC and Moveon.
Did anyone notice the date of this article, or is it just me.
I hadn't noticed the date. I can see the tv stations didn't comply. So they'd best not comply with the Swift Boat ads either.
Mr. Praline: Look, matey, I know a dead parrot when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now.
Owner: No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'! Remarkable bird, the Norwegian Blue, idn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage!
Mr. Praline: The plumage don't enter into it. It's stone dead.
Owner: Nononono, no, no! 'E's resting!
Yes but would Kerry and Edwards show up to vote?
Damn, you had to ruin it for me...
The Bush/Cheney '04 campaign has not made any moves against the moveon.org type stuff until Kerry/Edwards makes similar moves against Republican-side 527s like the Swiftee ads.
The 527's should have free speech rights just like all the rest of us. The Congrss shall make no law... abridging the right of the people to a free press and free speech, free assembly, etc, etc. CFR is unconstitutional. The FEC itself is unconstitutional.
Scared ya, didn't it? Just for a teeny second...scared ya. Admit it. LOL!!!
"This election has jsut gone nuclear!"
Brings back memories of 'MAD'. With so much mud being slung by all the 527s, et al - it makes you wonder if anyone will be listening soon. Free speech is great, but even with that you can't yell 'fire!' in a crowded theater which is almost what these groups are doing.
Nary a whisper about oil prices, Iraq, or anything else because of the attention being given 'the screamers'.
I think that, tactically, this is a mistake for the Republican party. I doubt that the courts are going to restrict anyone, so I don't think this is going to accomplish anything. The Democrats were making themselves look like fools with their lawsuit, but now the Republicans are making themselves look just as bad. The Republican should have just sat back and let the Democrats ruin themselves. Now they both look bad.
Well, when all the campaign dust has settled, Senators McCain and Feingold need to run the gauntlet.
Gee, and campaign finance "reformers" said that we were going to have kinder and gentler elections. Campaign Finance Reform has proven to be a horrible waste of time and a threat to the Republic.
I think that the reference was to the lawyer.
You never get that excited about my e-mails.
