Kerry Hires Joe Lockhart to Combat Swift Boat Veterans
MSNBC 'First Read' Political Insider Memo ^ | 8/20/04 | Liz Wilner

Posted on 08/20/2004 7:41:15 AM PDT by gopwinsin04

The Los Angeles Times notes this morning that he Kerry campaign has hired former Clinton White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart and Joel Johnson, a lobbyist who worked for President Clinton to help respond to the Swift Boat Veteran's attacks.

Group officials who discuss strategy on condition of anonymity said that the anti-Kerry group plans to hammer the Democrat for his war claims and protests after he left Vietnam, especially his claims that US soldiers committed war crimes.

The group are also arranging local veterans to criticize Kerry when he vists their states.

Aides said Kerry has been flooded with calls from concerned veterans, and a CBS poll released last night showed the senator losing significant support amongst those who served in the armed forces.

Instead of rebutting each charge, Kerry blamed Bush for sanctioning such highly personal attacks, though there is no evidence that the presdients campaign has any direct connections to the anti-Kerry group.

I think it's interesting that McCurry was Kerry's first choice and obviously he had to go for Lockhart instead.

The million dollar question ...Is Mz. Bulbous Butt Hillary going to step in and save the day by becoming the new presidential candidate when Kerry is shown to be a delusional fraud?

Is this a sign of the DNC/Hellary cozying up to Kerry?

I have to think that Shrillary is waiting in the wings somewhere to drop the other shoe on Lurch boy ..

"I've seen O'Neill several times on FNC and C-Span and think he handles himself beautifully and is credible and thoughtful in his responses."

He is truly incredible, he NEVER loses his cool, and he has dealt with idiots like Carville and Chris Matthews, that had ME screaming at the television

"The DNC smear machine has a lot of money behind it and my fear is that the Swift Boat vets are going to take so much heat for their bravery, again, and will be slimed, again. We must not let that happen."

I'm hoping that the rest of us rally behind them, and I tend to think America is beginning to see the difference between "THEM" and "US"....they have truth on their side, it's obvious!!

"O'Neill as an attorney should not represent himself and I hope some hotshot lawyer steps forward to help them pro bono because I see bigtime slander and libel suits coming up."

The slander lawsuits may not happen, first because they're not lying and second, if Kerry DOES bring a lawsuit, it would require discovery, which means the release of ALL of the military records, which favor the Swifties. I think Mark Levin, Landmark Legal Foundation has offered to defend them pro bono, in the event that Kerry's goons push at them with a lawsuit....

P.S. Fox News is talking about the new ad now.....

I still think Shrillary is waiting until October, to drop her FBI files on Kerry.

If I had to bet, it's going to be the winter soldier meetings in KC detailed in the NY Conservatice Sun paper

I wasn't clear - I think that the Swift Boat vets will have to file the lawsuits to clear their names from the DNC smear machine that is going to get uglier and uglier.

Mr. Peach called me in to see the ad and I missed it; out watering flowers. Dang it all.

The Bush group basically ignored Michael Moore, and the movie did it's little piece, and came and went. But thanks to the Kerry team's sensitivity to his record.... this thing is going to blow up big time.

So Kerry hired the goon who tried to coverup Clinton's rape of Juanita Broaddrick? It's meltdown time. Teresa must be downing a few liters of Johnny Walker right now.

Hiring Joe Lockhart - The bug-eyed bastion of buffoonery?

Yesterday the rumor was Tim McCurry would join the Kerry campaign. He must have had a Monica flashback and decided he'd had his combat tour defending another liar, Bill Clinton.

Old "Deer In The Headlights Lockhart on the other hand makes perfect sense for this job. We know how that man can lie....big time! He almost seemed to enjoy it, and not out of conviction, or because he was duped.

Well said on Kerry's words dooming himself.

I can't help but contemplate how first addressing the medals and his service in Vietnam and how he's wrapped himself in that aspect only underscores the treachery of his later actions condemning his "band of brothers" and his own country.

Is his campaign going to call this a lie? Kerry's own words? Was he lying then or will he stand by them today?

Wouldn't it just be total poetic justice, that after he loses the election, big time, that Thereza finally recognizes that she's married to a total lying loser dipshit and throws his ass out on the street, penniless!

Kerry's voting record in the Senate showing him as a NO SHOW and Kerry's record showing him so liberal that U-Boat Teddy looks ultra-right wing will have an effect on Kerry's chances of re-election to Senate. But the real stake in the heart of Kerry are the Swifties, losing the Presidential race, and perhaps as you hint Teresa wanting out of the spotlight and out of Kerry's odd life. All these acts will have an avalanche-effect in Kerry's life and the life of Kerry is the life of the DNC.

Think NO POWER for Kerry. Think Republican Jr. Senator sitting next U-Boat Teddy (ending Kennedy's hold on the state)--NO POWER for Kennedy. And this is a power shift not only in US and Massachussetts, but in the DNC's uber-fortress stronghold of Mass. It's like California recalling Davis and going to Arnold cubed. Think NO POWER for Hillary in 2008. Add to the mix, NJ McGreedy's scandals and the obvious damage-control it's the perfect storm against the DNC, a domino effect like no other.

DNC is pulling out all the weapons in the arsenal. This is going to get very ugly. And what concerns me is the McCains of the RNC becoming the DNC lapdogs, allowing their own to be mauled so they could eat the scraps of flesh left after the battle.

Hi, Petronski. I know O'Neill is an attorney but I don't think it's a good idea for an attorney to represent himself.

Buthe will know lots of people and hopefully one of them will step forward when/if the time comes to defend these guys from the DNC smear machine. It's going to be very ugly.

I've heard the new commercial is devastating

SB Vets ads are the politcal equivalent of precision guided munitions, inexpensive, accurate, and deadly. A few more hits like this last one and kerry's really toast. He's already way off message and is going to spend most of his campaign in a defensive posture.
